Description

This SCF was posted by City Staff on behalf of Greenwood Point Homeowners Association:

On behalf of the Greenwood Point Homeowners Association (GPHOA), our governing Board is making a request of the City of Issaquah. Our 138 homeowners continually experience speeding traffic on 188th Ave. S.E. coming from both the northerly and southerly directions. The street is a long thoroughfare that extends from West Lake Sammamish Parkway SE to SE 42nd St. bordering Lake Sammamish. See the map below. This street provides access to the following HOAs: Meerwood, South Cove, Lake West, Lindley Shore on the east side of the street and Greenwood Point and Meadowbrook Point on the west side of the street. This access involves over 300 homes and likely twice as many cars. There are 25 mph signs posted on the street, but they are ignored by a large contingent of drivers who live in the area as well as delivery and contractor vehicles. This is additionally concerning because there are school bus stops on this street, considerable pedestrian traffic and absolutely no crosswalks whatsoever from the Parkway to SE 42nd. Speeding has become a 24/7 problem.
The Board has considered various measures to effect traffic calming in the area, but are most interested in a permanent radar speed sign. Therefore, the Board’s question is, “Would the City of Issaquah consider installing a permanent Radar Speed Sign that displays the driver’s speed? Currently, you have two of them on NW Sammamish Rd. in both directions close to the entrance of the State Park. If the City is unwilling or unable to install such a sign, the GPHOA asks if we require (or can obtain) permission from the City to install a permanent, solar-powered sign on 188th Ave SE. I’m including a link to the type of device we would purchase from Amazon if the City has no other viable options for us.
From the Amazon website: SafePace Evolution 11 Radar Feedback Sign, Residential, Solar Powered, 23"x29", LED Speed Limit Sign:

I look forward to hearing back from you at the earliest opportunity. I’ve copied Bennett Ashbaugh on this message as I originally had a discussion with him about speed controls in the area and he gave me your name as the person to whom any request should be addressed.
Thanks for giving consideration to our request and our Board of Directors will look forward to your response.
