The City of Salem Traffic & Parking Department has worked with a consultant to develop an interim roadway striping plan in an effort to reduce lane widths, reduce vehicle speeds, and enhance pedestrian visibility to drivers. This plan will be presented at the next Traffic & Parking Commission on Wednesday, February 8th at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held virtually, and the agenda (which also contains the Zoom meeting link) will be posted on the City’s website at https://www.salemma.gov/node/97483/agenda/2023. Please note that a longer-term vision for Broad Street will continue to be developed as this would require much more consideration for existing drainage structures, existing trees, lighting, pedestrian ramp and sidewalk construction, as well as potential bicycle accommodations, etc. This striping plan would serve as an interim measure while this long-term effort progresses.
