Some of the most heaved and broken pavement in Berkeley lies on this stretch. The road is often patched, but the patches soon wear out.

This has been written up in Chronicle Watch, and been the subject of many City of Emeryville Bike/Ped Meetings. Unfortunately the road mostly serves Emeryville, but it is a shared right of way between Caltrans and City of Berkeley.

Thus it gets neglected.

It needs a "full depth" reconstruction, and would be a very valuable place to add a sidewalk or shared use pathway.
