Concerned about the speed of traffic through here and a man was recently killed here With the apartment complex going up there should be a stop light at this intersection to slow traffic and make it easier to turn onto MLK

Thank you for submitting this SeeClickFix request. When considering intersections for traffic signals, we are required to use nationally accepted engineering standards. One of those is the average hourly volume on the major and minor streets. There are certain minimum volume thresholds that have to be met, and 30th Avenue S does not meet it. We also consider the crash history of the intersection. If an un-signalized intersection has had 5 more crashes within a 12-month period that could have been correctable with a traffic signal, it will be considered for a traffic signal. There were 3 crashes at this intersection between 1/1/22 to 12/31/22. Only 1 of the 3 was possibly correctable with a traffic signal. It was a left turn crash. The other 2 were rear-end collisions that would not have been prevented with a traffic signal.
I realize this is not what you wanted to hear. I can tell you that the City will soon begin designing a crosswalk for this intersection with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon. That design work will continue for the rest of the year.
Sincerely,
Brian Pessaro
