The City of New Haven has purchased signs that can be placed in the road warning motorists to stop for pedestrian but they have yet to put one here, even on a temporary basis!
An in-road pedestrian sign might be doable if there's someone around who'll agree to keep an eye on it and put it back in place when (not if) negligent/malicious drivers run it over. The in-road pedestrian signs have been in storage over the winter because 1 in 10 snow plow drivers like to smash things that are in the road (or not in the road, like defenseless young trees!--sorry, personal experience). Yeah, so just find someone who lives/works nearby who can look after it, contact Transportation, Traffic and Parking, and you might be able to work something out. I should note that we really only know for sure that in-road ped signs work on narrow, two-way streets like State or Olive, and so the city has been prioritizing those streets. I hope this was helpful.
