Permits for construction remain valid and some rough inspections have been completed. The property still needs a large amount of work but appears to be moving forward, if slowly. The debris pile and dumpster are not a violation as long as the permits remain valid.

Understood. However, this has become an eyesore for the neighborhood. Also the debris pile is not being properly disposed of. There is a concern for safety issue too with doors being left open, broken/open windows, and possibility of attracting vermin/squatters.

I would also like to add on to this complaint. I walk by this house every day and it is not only and eyesore for the neighborhood- it smells terrible and is a big safety concern. The doors are not locked or closed off and there are broken windows and glass all over the place in the yard, driveway, and in to the road. This is a danger for people who walk, dogs, and children who play in the neighborhood. There is no way city code allows for a home to sit in this state for months.

We will ask Building Inspections to check the job site for construction violations but the owners of the property appear to have obtained all necessary permits for renovation. As long as the permits are valid, there is no violation under the Municipal Code. If construction or renovation activities cease for 180 days or more, the permits may be revoked. Otherwise, no enforcement action will be taken as there is no violation.

Building inspections looked into the property and found that a new contractor just received permits to work on the project and no violations were found. Again, as long as valid permits have been issued, construction can proceed causing issues that would otherwise be treated as violations. Also, construction may be paused for up to 180 days before permits may be revoked. Please call Code Enforcement at 205-739-6851 for updates.
