When you see "trash" on the side of the road, get out of your car, pick it up and put it in your trunk to dispose of later. Once these companies see that their signs are being removed, maybe just maybe they will stop placing them here and move on to Gardendale where they will be more accepted
These signs are unlawful. The general public does not have enforcement powers but are encouraged to notify the City of any code violation. These signs are in violation of Alabama State Law-Criminal Littering which is a Class C Misdemeanor with a minimum fine of $250.00.
In addition, the City of Homewood has a sign ordinance which is on their website that designates a Code Enforcement Officer. The Code Enforcement Officer enforces the sign ordinance (Sec. 5-160). The Code Enforcement Officer can write citations for these violations. Also the City can recover the cost for removing the sign from the responsible owner. Once the responsible person is tried in municipal Court and found guilt, the responsible person will be guilty of a misdemeanor. (www.homewoodal.net)
