I'm sorry. That "snitches get stitches" comment was inappropriate and not funny. I am truly sorry if it was interpreted as a threat of violence. I mean no such thing.

I do feel that ratting out people to the police for running red lights, while certainly not warranting retribution, is a despicable thing to do. Don't get me wrong: Boston has some of, if not THE worst drivers in the country. They are extremely inconsiderate, treat driving as some sort of @#$% contest, and show no knowledge whatsoever of common driving etiquette. Still, I hate traffic cops more than a lot of things. Yes, I know that traffic laws serve a cause and are probably necessary, but I hate their draconian, inconsistent, and arbitrary enforcement, especially with the myriad streets with lower-than-necessary speed limits, intersections (mainly in Cambridge) in which right turn on red is being taken away seemingly for the hell of it, and cops who set up speed traps yet still drive 60 on Hammond Pond Pkwy. And you help them? Shame on you! If the traffic cops are doing their job, then let them catch the offenders. I know very well that there are some obnoxious, unsafe drivers out there, but I'm not going to rat them out and hold them ransom to abominable fines and higher insurance rates. Chances are they've already been and/or will be caught for something else. Besides, I know that intersection well. There's nothing there.

I meant every word I said about how badly lights need to be synchronized, among other things. The roads here are pathetic. It's ridiculous: why should I have to use more gas and put further wear on my brakes and clutch by getting caught at a red light every two blocks? It's insane. And in a city that considers itself to be so progressive? Garbage.

Traffic lights are under the jurisdiction of the Transportation Dept.

The BTD has been alerted to this situation, but so far has failed to address the issue.

I reiterate my stance against reporting people for mere traffic violations. No one likes a tattle-tale. I don't condone illegally breaking traffic laws, but I also don't believe reporting them to be a matter of social responsibility unless someone really does present an immediate danger. Please note that this is not my attitude regarding criminal activity, in which case "snitching" is the socially responsible thing to do.

The person who created this watch area will need to edit the keywords to include only issues that fall under BPW jurisdiction.

That's garbage, Grimlocke. I don't even make that left turn off Cambridge St. before the intersection between 4-6 pm, and I've seen plenty of people pull that. But did I rat them out? No way.

What, this forum is useful because you say it is? What I am saying is not "useless blather." I have serious moral issues about this post. I also believe that problems with Boston drivers, whose behavior includes running red lights, is part of a deeper problem that tattling won't solve. I know Boston's roads and traffic really really well. There are extremely serious issues here that wont' be solved with certain misguided attempts.

Plus there's a reason that images on TV and in print--in the public domain--blur license plates. Posting the license plate numbers is a possible violation of privacy.

Large blue pickup truck, plates 36R Y20 ran this light at 5:10pm today, at the tail end of a three car light run.

Still watching people blow through this light, all day every day. The fact that there isn't a Ticket Camera for each direction at this intersection is completely moronic - the camera would pay for itself in one single day, and go on to make an amazing amount of money for the city.

Stop ignoring this issue, this is a huge safety concern as well as a blatant disregard for broken traffic law.

Grim, we should head down to the department and bring there attention to this. It is in their interest.

Bus number 2137 ran this red light going East on Cambridge Street on Friday, nearly t-boning a cyclist and flattening a couple pedestrians about to cross.

The neglect of duty on the part of the city and the BPD is just unbelievable. One person has already lost their life at this intersection (that I'm aware of). I guess they're going to ignore the issue until there is a decent body count.

An entitled little brunette in a dark grey sedan pushed through this red light to take a left onto Cambridge Street, eastbound, while drinking her Starbucks coffee.

I was going to create a watch area for Boston Police so that they could find out about this issue, but CityofBoston.gov is down for maintenance.

A black Rav-4 crested the hill traveling west on Cambridge street just as this light turned yellow today at 8:45am. The Rav did not give the slightest indication of slowing, and blew through the intersection two seconds after the light had turned red. The license plate was 177 3TI. The fact that people can do this unhindered, all day, every day, speaks volumes to the ineffectiveness of Allston's traffic coordination team and police force. Disgusting and pathetic.

The ongoing neglect of this trouble intersection is evidence of such grievous disregard of duty that it's becoming apparent the people responsible are at best criminal, and at worst possibly mentally disabled.

Maybe this could be brought to the attention of one of the local news crews. They seem to do reports on this from time to time (e.g., http://wbztv.com/local/mbta.bus.drivers.2.1529504.html). Or maybe get some traction with Nicole Freedman, the bike czar (Nicole.Freedman.bra@cityofboston.gov or 617-918-4456).

Unfortunately, both of those courses of action have already been exhausted. At this point I'm considering tossing out spike strips just as the light turns red. I need to hire someone to stand there and do it, though.

Watched two people in the last two days stop for this light, and then proceed through as if it were a stop sign. I'm only at this intersection for an average of two minutes a day, and I invariably see four or five people run this light. The revenue lost every moment of every day that we don't have a red light camera here could easily pay the salary of a police officer dedicated to this one intersection. Wake up, guys.

Just twenty four hours after a young girl was almost killed by a hit and run at this intersection, I watched a parade of cars blow through the red light right in front of a police car waiting at the other signal. No response whatsoever. So apparently we have given up on this intersection. Why have traffic signals here at all? Isn't it a waste of electricity?

Once again I witnessed a train of six cars run this light at 3pm yesterday, on Cambridge Eastbound. In the center of this little caravan was an oblivious or extremely negligent PBD officer, apparently unaware that he was breaking the law along with the rest of his buddies. Pathetic.

Traffic light at Chestnut Hill Avenue and Hatherly Road in Brighton - The red light of both of the two traffic signals facing Hatherly Road are inoperative. Please fix.

Watched a mother with two young girls almost get run down while crossing by an oversize pickup truck that had run the red light. It was obvious that the driver saw the light and was ignoring it.

At 2pm on Friday, I sat at this intersection and observed the flow of traffic for five minutes. In that span of time, I watched seven cars run red lights, including one large dump truck and one Allston Police cruiser.

At long last, I have decided to honor the old adage: "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!". I now run this red light multiple times a day. Cheers!

It is a real shame that cyclists and pedestrians in this city can no longer trust in the safety of following the rules and obeying traffic signals. One out of every three times I begin to move on my green signal, I am nearly broadsided by a vehicle running the red light at this and other intersections on my route. Likewise, as a pedestrian, I frequently have to dodge out of the way of vehicles making illegal turns against the walk signal. Red light cameras would go a long way toward teaching the motorists of this city that they must follow the rules or pay the price.

I know you'll all be surprised to hear this, but both the general public and service vehicles (school buses, cop cars, fire trucks) are still running this red light during EVERY CYCLE. Luckily, nobody has gotten killed lately. Fingers crossed, you pathetic shamefaced sots.
