Why did the city upgrade this intersection with a traffic signal and crosswalk, but only install a streetlight on the NW corner? I just drove thru this intersection and it is too dark and unsafe for pedestrians.

Recently the City Council voted to lift the longstanding moratorium on new streetlights, however funding has yet to be allocated for additional lights or a source of funds identified to provide for their long-term maintenance. Therefore we are now collecting requests, like yours, to build a list which will then be prioritized.  This process will take time so we kindly ask for your patience. Washtenaw is Business 23 under MDOT's jurisdiction. A single streetlight on the NW corner of the intersection does not provide adequate crosswalk illumination. City Council recently approved the budget with minimal funding for streetlights (crosswalk illumination) because Mayor Taylor expressed concern about our already high spending level for streetlights. This logic is flawed with respect to pedestrian safety. I am appealing this ticket to MDOT as the lighting level does not meet minimum standards.

I would also like to request appropriate lighting at this intersection. The current configuration is going to get someone injured, at best.
