Description

Numerous cars get caught for the light at 5th and W. Erie as early as 4am, just because the light cycles. There are no cars coming off of W. 5th, and the cars on Erie get stopped here for no reason, and then get caught again at Oberlin Ave. Does there really need to be a light here at all??

Yes. You would not believe how many cars breeze right thru the no turn on red heading east on Erie to 5th st. and at 5th heading west on Erie its tough to look back to the right to see oncoming traffic let alone the police cars that use that avenue as a drag strip to test the squads power and lights as they leave city hall and the station to take up their posts on the west side of the city.I live right there.

The signal light at 4th at 5th Street and West Erie is necessary. It allows traffic from Lakeview, and 2nd Street to make a enter the street. The diagional 5th Street, makes it hazard to turn onto West Erie. It should be marked "dangerous intersection" and it is necessary.

Read the comment header again, Joyce. ...unnecessary after hours. At 4am there is no need for this light to be cycling to 5th St traffic, because there is none. And if it's off/blinking, traffic on Erie is light enough for 5th St to enter with no problems.

There are intersections all over that impede the flow of traffic and waste gasoline, especially after hours. I have heard people from the west coast laugh at the situation here. I am not sure if they are using old technology or just not able to use the technology that they have but it is pathetic.

It is ridiculous, Tom. The light at Leavitt and Meister occasionally gets "stuck", meaning it defaults to westbound Meister traffic, instead of Leavitt's traffic. The light at Leavitt and West Erie should be configured to stay on Erie unless triggered. We could write a novel on all the lights in this town that are screwy.

Anyone out there listening (that can fix these)?

The light at Broadway and the Bascule Bridge should stay green for West Erie unless triggered. The same goes for West Erie and Washington Ave and West Erie and Oberlin Avenue. The majority of the traffic after hours is east/west. Set up the lights to change if there's north/south traffic, and then default back to east/west.

I get that at 4am it may be excessive, but when you live north of West Erie and need to cross that traffice during the day, the light is absolutely necessary. Maybe it should turn to blinking after midnight? Just a suggestion.

Light is still a problem, and is obviously set on a timer. Regardless of traffic, it changes to 5th Street without being triggered.
