It is getting to be impossible to pull out from Franklin onto Marshall. Traffic has gotten worse. The stop sign that was put in at Marshall and Matlack has spread the east bound traffic out so that there is not enough time to pull out from Franklin. The stop sign at Marshall and Matlack also causes West bound traffic to get backed up through the Hillside/Franklin/Marshall intersection. Now, there is a middle school bus stop at that corner in the morning. The kids make it impossible to see to pull out. And for their safety they need to be moved. Today, and the week of 12/10/11, I have seen 3 near misses when cars pulled out of Franklin causing cars on Marshall to slam on their brakes. Only a matter of time til a car slides, jumps the curb, and hits a kid. Please put up a stop sign. This intersection needed one before Matlack/Marshall AND Walnut/Marshall got one. It needed one 10 years ago.

Sure. I can drive one block over to Matlack and have done so in bad weather (actually it works out to be 4 extra blocks but who is counting). We can create a bottleneck there instead. Everyone should just bypass Franklin/Marshall and pretend the intersection doesn't exist. Makes perfect sense. Let's just ignore the problem and/or move it to a different place 200 yards away. I can't wait to try it. Instead of pulling out from Franklin and getting t-boned by someone on Marshall, I can be the one ON Marshall who has to slam the brakes on when someone pulls out of Franklin. Again, makes perfect sense.
People have been complaining about speeding on Marshall east of Matlack through the hospital area for years. Now, people are complaining about safety issues and traffic at Marshall St/Franklin/Marshall Dr. So, let's just ignore them and not put a stop sign up? And, as I mentioned before, it's not just "my" issue. There are kids there in the morning. I guess we can just move them to Matlack as well. So, I guess no stop sign is needed. My bad. I'll just ignore what I see daily.
Also, about pulling the stop sign out... I recall a few years back (1996-ish) when 3 kids pulled a stop sign out of an intersection. Didn't end so well for 3 innocent people. Tampa area I believe. Don't sweat it, I know you were kidding. But still... something needs to be done to increase the safety for both drivers and pedestrians. I'd rather there not have to be a stop there as well. However, the status quo isn't a solution.
