Thank you for your comment. I have asked my legal department to prepare a legal explanation to the nature of notice with respect to emergency order for no parking. You were not notified at 8pm - it was earlier than that. It was greater than 12 hours before the 7am ban went into effect and we did not begin removing cars before 8:30am today.
Pardon my lightheartedness, I figured since the neighborhood has been requesting snow removal, this would be a welcome delivery to the neighborhood.

Big Issues here:
1) No notice of this on the official website. One checks "Snow Emergencies + Snow Parking Bans" on the official City of New Haven website for notices like this and there was nothing about it. That's exactly what this was, right? A snow emergency and/or snow parking ban?
2) If you call 203-946-SNOW there is no notice of this. I signed up for warnings and text alerts and received nothing.
3) If one happens to go to SeeClickFix (which, IMO, is not where one would check for official announcements and think it's unfair to assume residents would) you clearly see a notice stating there is not a parking ban. (see attached)
4) So basically the only true measure to know if your car should be moved (or if there is a parking ban) is to be walking along the road your parked on at night during a snowstorm and to look for signs. Does this sound reasonable to you? You also mention that you posted a notice on SeeFlickFix at 4:52PM but when did posted signs go up on the street?
If you can't tell, yes my car was towed and would love if it wasn't. But moreso, if you really care about being a city official and this was done for the benefit of the neighborhood residents, I would suggest situations like this need MUCH better communication.

These are big issues and they need to be addressed.
There is no one set medium for these things to be announced. It's grossly unfair to expect that everyone living in Wooster Square is on seeclickfix.com -- NOT a city website -- or on an email thread. Cardboard signs put up 12 hours before are just as flimsy.
There's not enough parking in the neighborhood on a sunny day. When you give us very little notice to move our cars -- and don't even know if we can park in the school lot! -- what are we supposed to do? Move them in the dark and on ice and then walk back to our homes?
This is just another mismanagement. Last year, the city ignored Wooster Square and one of the funeral homes had to dig us out. Now, the city tows away with glee without having given fair notice. On no official city websites was this area designated as a place where parking was prohibited for these hours.
Those who were towed should be refunded. Those in charge of logistics should study and learn to manage a neighborhood that people live in.

The comments above are right that we can and should and must strive to do better. The posted signs are the old method for posting for snow removal and emergency bans. The SeeClickFix is on top of the old method.
In addition, I will work on getting the reverse 911 system (everbridge) to go out, as well as press releases and updates to the city website.
Pardon my gruffness before. You are correct that a city must do better.
Posted signs were posted more than 12 hours in advance and we strive for 24 hours notice. During snow storms and cleanups, it is vital to watch for signs and talk to your neighbors when you see them. Also, feel free to email Alder Greenberg with more comments and suggestions.
