I completely agree, this is the worst traffic "improvement" that has ever been done in this area. I saw someone lose a mirror today heading West on 38th because the median being added made the already too narrow three lanes at the intersection of 1st and 40th far too narrow for a truck to drive through when someone is in the left lane in a truck or SUV. The turn lanes are also utterly useless and confusing, I've seen multiple senior citizens driving the wrong way through them already!! I have started taking a different route to work every morning through the more residential neighborhood to the south of the Publix because it is so bad.

Ditto - this is the worst. Not only is the pattern ridiculous, the height and configuration of the medians is likely to either cause an accident or worsen an accident. I can't believe this was designed by a professional engineer. More like a kid with a Hot Wheels track.

Update from Engineering: The construction project to add new medians and a new traffic signal at intersection of 38th and 39th Ave N at the entrance to the NE Shopping Center is not yet complete. Temporary traffic markings have been in place for a couple of weeks while other construction on the project was completed. It has taken several weeks for drivers to become accustomed to the new traffic patterns, which do eliminate some left turn movements in this area for increased safety. The final resurfacing of 38th Ave N from 1st Street to 4th Street is being completed, with the final new traffic markings being installed as each section is completed. By the close of business last Friday, February 20th, the roadway layout should have been in final configuration. The traffic signal at 38th and 39th Ave N will be activated within the next 2 weeks.

I drive a one ton truck and I love the new traffic pattern and I think that people who live in the Northeast Park and Coffee Pot neighborhoods will be glad for the added safety measures. The speed limit through there has been 30 mph for some time and commuters will need to slow down now. Pedestrians will be safer.
