I can’t say I am familiar with her. Respectfully this appears to have been a missed opportunity for a teachable moment. Jersey City has had a large influx of new residents recently, many of which have not yet familiarized themselves with all of our local rules. We have all from time to time stumbled into to situations where we find ourselves on the wrong side of this or that rule. I know I have - dogs within the play area or having an extra item while in the express lane at the supermarket. This would have been the perfect opportunity to inform one of our newest neighbors that dogs should only be off leash within the dog runs and on private property within in the municipality and are not permitted at all within the play area.
The City has begun replacing these signs that are more eye-catching and will draw parkgoers to the rules in the future.
Other than this we hope you otherwise enjoyed your visit to Hamilton Park.
Thanks for the thoughtful response, and all you do for the park, Vernon. I could buy this, if there weren't huge signs on the gated entrances. And I wouldn't quite equate this to an extra item at check out. Kids play in that area, barefooted, ingesting the water. It's unsanitary for the dog to be in there. If you want to use the check-out metaphor, it's more like someone put their dog on the belt and let it pee.
And perhaps you're right that it's a missed teachable moment. But it's not my responsibility to coach grown adults on how to be considerate of others. To your point, I indeed did and always do, enjoy my time in the park - and the last thing I want is a showdown with an entitled karen.
So that's why I am asking for the city to do a better job at enforcing its own rules. And until then, we'll just have to publicly shame entitled neighbors acting badly.
