Thank you for reporting your concern to City of Cambridge via Commonwealth Connect. We have reviewed the information you provided our staff and will be investigating this issue further.
The city is the enabler. Many of the new faces here are from the mass &cass area in Boston where the community is doing their darndest to find solutions that actually work; and i would suggest that the majority of them are people who don’t want to be helped— they don’t want to be noticed. Furthermore; if you *do* notice them and you look at them for a moment or two, they will get aggressive and verbally threaten you. Every time this has happened to me I have been too busy to stop or outnumbered and scared so I’ve just kept going but I don’t think their threats are “just talk.” I’ll bet if you really tried to engage with them they would use violence no doubt in my mind about that. They are not just spending a night or two while they wait for a bed somewhere, they are living there on a semi permanent basis and I put forward the suggestion that they don’t even want a bed somewhere because then people would notice how much crystal methamphetamine and opiates they are abusing and try to help them. They don’t want the help they want the drugs. They want the mopeds and bikes. They want to destroy nature. They want to ruin the public peace. They are not so innocent or vulnerable they are big time advantage takers.
Oh I forgot to mention: several of the people I’ve spoken to about this issue have told me that representatives of both the cities of boston and Cambridge have specifically told them to go to alewife brook reservation and camp there, that they won’t be bothered if they go there. People at mass&cass as well as Cambridge homeless outreach folks have told them that— that’s why I say the city is the enabler. I really would like to know who it is telling people that.
