Description
Okay, this, after about a year, is still not fixed... Worse, your CoR staff said, "not sure what leaving this open would accomplish" here: https://seeclickfix.com/issues/1452817
So hear this: Leaving this open would allow us to make sure you're doing your job.
So when will you?

The project has no estimated completion date? Is that routine? That would explain a lot about why some of this stuff seems to get paid for but never get completed.
I guess the hazard will just remain on the trail until someone kills themself on it.

I know the area but what's the concern? Is the issue that the greenway and swamp are not straight, completely flat, and devoid of all man made materials? Life has bumps twists and turns why shouldn't the city of Raleigh to some degree? I don't see the safety issue as a big concern compared to bigger safety issues like people actually dying on our roads due to unenforced traffic laws.
I know the location but fail to understand the actual issue and why it's relevant to the citizens of Raleigh.

The concerns are two-fold and you can ignore them if you'd like but you can't make me ignore them because, as a taxpayer, I've paid to have them resolved but no one will get up from their desk long enough to get them fixed.
First, this is a bicycle path and the gap in the path at the new earth dam is extremely hazardous to bicyclists.
Second, I am sure that the project plan that was paid for with tax payer money did not include a gap in the path or any indication that the construction materials and protective mesh would NEVER be removed. Moreover, I'll bet that the cost of completing the path and removing the mesh has already been paid to some contractor that was never forced to do their job even though forcing them to do their job is also somebody's job that the taxpayers pay for.
Seems like persistent and institutional laziness and the citizens of the city pay the price over and over.

User ncjks: Your postings are inappropriate. City staff has reported that this is an ongoing infrastructure project by our Public Utilities department. Since it has been and remains ongoing, it is not complete, and the meshing you reference, as part of the ongoing project, remains in place.
Not sure what else to report to you. Feel free to give me a call to discuss further, but again there is not much point in continual postings to SeeClickFix. I look forward to speaking with you regarding your concern.

As always, the call to your number is met with a recording. I left my number.
I don't understand how a project gets approved that will never be completed. It seems to me that, since completing it is hard and requires people to actually do what they've been paid to do that, after years and years, you just choose not to do it.
I'm sure the project had an estimated completion date on it when the engineer submitted it and when it was contracted. If we can leave a project open for years then we can at least figure out who's not doing their job.

ncjks, is this what you we're trying to say?
"I'm angry. I need someone to blame. I pay taxes, so these people work for me. Someone should be fired. They gave me a legitimate answer, but it wasn't the one I wanted, so I'm going to keep yelling."
That's how it sounded to me.

User "ncjks"- It was nice speaking with you on the telephone yesterday and following clarification I have the following information from our Public Utilities department. My return call to you today was 'met with a recording'. I left my number and a message.
As previously reported, this is an ongoing construction project complicated by a contractor that did not perform. This issue is related to an ongoing sanitary sewer project. The contractor that bid the project the entire project had this work removed from their contract for various reasons (the contractor was not paid for work that was not completed). Because of this, and other issues related to that construction, additional design and permitting was required before rebidding the project.
According to the current schedule, the remainder of the construction will be advertised in the next 4-6 weeks. Once we are through the bidding process, signs will be put up on the greenway to notify the public when the greenway will be closed. In the meantime, Public Utilities will work with the Parks departmetn to address the state of existing fencing and make the affected areas more stable.
I trust this responds to the inquiry with some level of finality. There is no need to reopen the issue or for us to keep the issue open, this will be resolved eventually, it was and remains an ongoing project, and thanks to everyone for patience and understanding.
Thanks also to Stevens Road Resident. Much appreciated.

Touche' on the phone tag. We have in fact, uncovered a huge issue with regards to a huge city contract and a huge quality of life issue for citizens and taxpayers, notably the failure of a contractor to perform. That was the answer I was looking for all along: We had a contractor that failed and we protected the taxpayer's interest by a) not paying him or her and b) reworking the project with a published estimated completion date.
Instead, to be honest, what I got was pretty much a stiff arm from a CoR staff that would prefer NOT to detail this sort of activity in a forum like SeeClickFix.
I'm not here to make enemies, I just want the trail completed, for safety and the construction materials removed for aesthetics. I consider these "quality of life" issues. After something like a year, I don't think a suitable explanation is too much to ask from a civil servant. And for safety, they might even think of an "interim" solution for the trail since it really is dangerous like I said about a year ago.
And as far as Stevens Road Resident is concerned, I can only suggest you try to read more closely and with greater curiosity. You are correct that the answer I got was not the answer that I wanted. However, since you lack either the capacity or curiosity, you considered it legitimate. Clearly you were wrong there because, now, we have the real answer: public sector malfeasance on a grand scale. That's obviously more information than you're interested in and, yes, somebody did get fired but, hey, different strokes I guess.
Further, except for SCF, I probably never would have gotten that answer because, honestly, while the guys and gals on the ground doing the work for CoR are great and do marvelous work, the CoR senior staff that spend their whole day behind their desks have a history of opacity and unresponsiveness which is exactly why SCF exists and will continue to grow.
Thank you and Bravo Mr. Verified Official 3 for your attention and tenacity.
