Dear G, finding legal, long-term parking in the vicinity of the police headquarters is virtually impossible. There are seven shifts throughout the day, compounded by train riders and civilian support staff, all of whom vie with officers for parking. Several years ago, the department tried and failed to get then mayor DeStefano to dedicate a parking lot to department staff. Instead, the lot in question is now a pay lot for commuters. Turning this into yet another cop-bashing opportunity is simply ignorant. Go use your power for good.

At Clarke- so your saying its ok to park on a sidewalk and block the crosswalk to force disabled people to not have egress to the street because why ??? Can you do that ? It's not cop bashing - it's stating a fact based on behavior. Try not to be so condescending. By your logic its ok to do whatever we want when we want just because the administartion didn't do their job.

City of New Haven, why was this issue recategorized from Parking Violation? What steps is the city taking to prevent people from parking in crosswalks and/or ticket and tow those who do? This is a problem in many locations, not just here:

Clarke, perhaps police headquarter workers can park in the gateway garage, as Bd of Ed employees have to do, some on their own dime, or even carpool from the Colesium lot. There is some dedicated parking for police workers on South Water, and illegally parking on sidewalks, in crosswalks, or at 2hr meters for the whole day is still illegal, just because workers don't feel like walking a block to work or paying for parking as most people who work in the city do.

Dear "Hate ignorant people" and "anonymous": my point was that many people vie for parking in that area, and to assume that the car belongs to a cop and then to go on to lambaste all cops for believing they are above the law seems unwarranted. It may have been a cop's car; it may have been a family coming to bail their loved one out of detention; it may have been a commuter running late for a train; it may have been a board of ed employee or a parent attending to BofE business. We don't know (hence the use of the word ignorant), and to make unkind remarks regarding ALL cops based on an assumption - and given the high demand and low supply of parking in the area - is an obvious example of "let's bash the cops" if there's even a possibility that ONE of them may be to blame.
