Sidewalk on bridge is a mess and needs to be repaved.
I've spoken with folks in the city about this and will bring it up with Public Works. Looks like it might not be too difficult to pave. You're right, that this spot definitely needs to be fixed. Thanks for pointing it out.

The design process will start this year (with construction scheduled for 2010) and that will include public comment. I suspect not many residents will like the idea of the bridge being widened. Let's keep this ticket open and when the opportunity for public comment comes around let folks know how to have their voice heard through this channel. Friends of East Rock Park does not support widening this bridge.
Thanks for the photo Ben. At this point, the city will wait until the bridge redesign and reconstruction is done, instead of repairing the current sidewalk.
I'll keep folks informed as the design process moves forward.

Two weeks ago the City hosted a meeting at Wilbur Cross High School to get some initial feedback on the bridge. The consultants that will work on the design gave a short presentation on the reasons for the redesign and potential fixes. Although there were only two citizens, myself and Alderman Roland Lemar in attendance, we made clear that traffic calming and historic preservation were priorities.
The consultants will present initial, draft designs to the community in November of this year at which time, hopefully we'll have a good turnout that can review what they come up with. I'll do my best to keep folks informed. If you're interested to receive my neighborhood email newsletter, email me at the address below.
