traffic has always been bad there on Sunday's. Avoid the area. We are lucky to have one of the County's oldest churches still open serving our neighborhood. If you were going to chuch there you wouldn't be complaining. I was married there, my parents were married there 49 years ago. Leave St Rose be....move onto the speeding issue on Chester Pike.

Eddystone Police do not have a blind eye about the parking at St. Rose. They are usually there on Sunday when masses let out to help direct traffic & assist people crossing the street. There are plenty of other churches were the parking laws are relaxed on Sunday's during mass.

Thanks for everyone's comments. @Ladubugcamm; the issue has nothing to do with your religious conviction, it has to with deadly vehicles traveling side by side in two lanes on a STATE HIGHWAY at 40-45 MPH, when suddenly, unexpectedly, and illegally motorists are in the curb-side land are confronted with PARKED traffic in their operating lane.
Next Sunday I suggest you drive along Rt 13, into any other law-abiding township and park your vehicle in the right hand operating land and walk away; two things will happen; the police will ticket you car and they will tow it away because your parked car in on a STATE HIGHWAY and parked in the operating lane. St Rose has generous parking and you should pray that it doesn't take a fatality for St Rose's and the Parish to do the right thing - huh- -and the legal thing - for a change.

@Buster B, Eddystone's residents should be asking "how can we protect and serve our police officers?" As for the Police presence at St Rose's when mass's let out to direct traffic, 6 of the 6 police officers killed in the line of duty in Ridley Park, Propsect Park, Eddystone, Norwood and Tinicum since 1919 (odmp dot org) were killed as a result of motor vehicles. Three were struck by vehicles, Two were killed in crashes, and one died in the pursuit of a hit and run suspect. According to The Officer Down Memorial Page, Inc, motor vehicle related deaths account for 4 of the 6 top categories among their list of 723 incidents of Pennsylvania's police officers killed in the line of duty.
Cars traveling 40-35 mph past Walmart need some other warnings besides human shields that pedestrians are crossing Rt 13. Let's protect our officers and pedestrians and begin enforcing the law on Rt 13 at St Rose's the way it should be enforced 24/7/365, and help protect lives.

every church in this area has conjested street parking on Sundays. It's common for the Police to assist when church lets out. Yes there is a parking lot behind the church. The church is huge so there are a lot of people going to mass. We all know when we're going past St Rose on Sunday traffic is going to be bad and the area is going to be conjested. In the past 30years I never heard anyone complain until now. I drive down Chester Pike all the time and have never had a problem with people parking in the right lane. I'm sure there is enough room to drive safely past the parked cars if you're driving at the correct speed.

@Howard, have you've driven by Christ Church in Ridley Park on W. Sellers Ave? There are cars parked on both sides of the street. But this only happens during mass on Sunday. It's kind of common sense that when you drive by a church on Sunday morning there is going to more automobile and foot traffic around the church.

@Ladybugcamm, great comment, I agree with you 100%. I've been going to St. Rose for some time now, & have never seen any problems with the cars parked on Chester Pike during Sunday mass.

Let 'em park there. Those folks think they are getting into heaven.

Since when is parking in a lane of traffic ok? It is not safe for people squeezing by on Chester Pike and certainly not safe for the people who park there trying to get into their cars. And to the people who say that the parking issue is only for mass on Sundays, they are WRONG! People park there any time there is an event at the church, such as a funeral mass during the week when Chester Pike is heavily traveled by big trucks! What would Jesus do? He'd probably park legally.

St Rose of Lima is located in Ridley Township, not Eddystone Borough. Chester Pike (Rt 13) is the dividing line. They have been parking that way for decades and I agree it needs to be fixed.

This whole matter is not for the safety of the locals who know about the dangerous situation in front of St Roses's on Sundays, it's for the community at large where ever St Rose resides. It came to my attention when our out of town guests were nearly smashed to bits. They had missed Stewart Avenue to join I-95 and their GPS directed them down Rt-13 to Bullens Lane. There they confronted Walmart traffic, drivers unyielding in the left land and parked cars in their lane; it was "slam on your brakes of die."
@Buester B. you're right @ Christ Church on Sellers Ave in Ridley Park the streets are heavily parked with legally parked vehicle on both sides of the street for church - BUT - there's only one legal operating lane on Sellers Avenue in front of Christ Church and no driver would expect a car to be parked in the center of the operating lane. And I agree that it makes sense to slow down at churches and for that matter, at schools and along the shopping strips along Chester Pike up to Philly.

At Rose of Lima there are two north bound and two south bound operating lanes, period. Not three on Sundays and four any other time.

Technically, of course, St. Rose and the southbound side of the street are in Ridley Township, not Eddystone. Try complaining to the Ridley cops.

St. Rose church is not in Eddystone. That side is Ridley Twp. and they use an Eddystone mailing address. Eddystone Police cross the people as a courtesy. Rt 13 is a state highway and they are responsible for putting the proper signs up for no parking. Eddystone Police have good eyes.

See, Click, Fix DID forward this issue to Ridley Township, so they are WELL AWARE of the parking issue. Since this issue was posted nearly 19 days ago, it is clear that Ridley Township doesn't care about anyone's safety. Just look at how many issues other have been posted in the Ridley Township area and how many have been resolved. Glad to see our Ridley Township tax dollars hard at work protecting us and our neighbors.

What's wrong with 1 lane of traffic for a little bit? Nothing. Stop crying cause you actually have to use your mirror and merge for 500 feet and slow down a little bit. Masses are always full. People park in the church lot, the professional office building next to the church, Triple "R" lot, Ritas, These lots are always full. So slow down for once and give people a break.

What's wrong with one lane on a legal two lane highway? @ajw2054 read the post, pay attention yourself to the nature of the topic and stop being so obnoxiously ridiculous that illegal activities are alright for a little while.

@all - thanks for all the input. My original post was spawned by a dangerous near-mishap with friends of ours who were unfamiliar with DelCo. @ajw2054, excuses and could-a/would-a/should-a's do not provide solutions with the problem that one operating lane on a State Highway is being occupied by illegally parked vehicles. Approach any PennDot road work crew and you will see the legal example for closing one lane of traffic on a two lane highway; like traffic cones, lighting, warning signs!
There are reasons for not mixing state and church and I'd offer it's further necessary to separate the church from sound reasoning when responding to this post. The Church's attendance is not the issue; their parishioners safe passage, care and concern for the lives of uniformed officers, and safe passage on our roadways are all the discussion points. I'd offer that the lane should-a/would-a/could-a be closed properly by the state for safety's sake, or not closed at all with illegally parked vehicles. Somewhere there's a win-win solution where the parishioners and drivers will be safe - thanks all
