I am surprised anyone finally acknowledged this problem which I (and another person) reported a long time ago and is still open #1299585 or 1408567 . I even included photos. For the Mayor's Action Center--please read it finally! Moreover, how about doing more than acknowledging these reports. My report was not even acknowledged by the City or Mayor's Action Center. I will be back in St Pete next week and planned to follow up through the mayor's office until someone responds. I think the courtesy of a response would be nice on the original complaint! Is SeeClickFix just a sinkhole for complaints? Thanks.

Mr. Davie - your initial SCF issue report, 1299585, was marked as a duplicate of an already existing issue, 1295378, that was addressed by Neighborhood Transportation in September 2014. Unfortunately we have no record of the submission of an SCF issue with the number 1408567 to the City of St Petersburg, however we do show an issue with that number was submitted in error to Pinellas County - we will ask that they acknowledge that past issue now and assign it to us. That, as well as this issue 1561293 submitted earlier today, will be forwarded to the attention of the Neighborhood Transportation Department - any questions specific to the details of these reports should be directed to that department by calling 727-893-7843. I agree! Thank you for bring this issue up. Can the city provide traffic data that justifies these speed bumps? I live on Beach Drive SE and these things are terrible on my car.

Why not just put a little engineering into them as they did on 22 Ave SE; they work properly there and DO NOT damage cars, tires, universal joints on front wheel vehicles, etc., and/or people's spines. The stated 'safe' speed simply does not work, I come to an almost complete stop and have several times almost been run into by drivers who either did not know what was waiting ahead for them or were simply too impatient. This 'safety' improvement has not done anything to improve safety - quite the opposite.

Transportation Department staff has verified that the profiles of the two speed humps are within acceptable tolerances. Staff has also installed a wide white pavement marking strip across the humps that is retro reflective and should help to identify the raised pavement in dark or dull lighting conditions. We will also install a retro reflective marker on the “Speed Hump” sign post to help attract motorist’s attention to the feature.
Installation of these two speed humps was considered after 24-hour average operating speeds were confirmed to be over 35 MPH, a minimum qualifying speed. In addition, the Old Southeast Neighborhood Association circulated a petition signed by over 2/3rds of the residents along 3rd Street and they also approved the installation as an amendment to their approved Traffic Plan, all a required procedure to have speed humps installed.

With all due respect Mr. Mike Frederick, if these two bumps are within acceptable tolerances then how is it that the hundreds of other speed bumps throughout the city that don't ruin cars and don't rattle one's brain out of their head are also within acceptable tolerance?....that's got to be one huge margin of error. If I did my job that way, planes would be plummeting out of the sky daily.

Sorry...I have lived her my entire life(53) and I did NOT receive a petition.......The Neighborhood Association does not speak for all citizens in Old SE. I would now like to see the petitions and the traffic data that warrants these speed humps.

I will call you today to review and ask for public info.

Furthermore, like GL said above, all it would take is for one to examine and compare these speed bumps with the pair on 22 Ave SE (no more than a quarter mile away), to see and feel that there is a huge disparity between the two different sets of speed humps...one set works, the other doesn't - unless of course the goal is to tear auto body parts from their chassis'.

I would like to invite Mr. Mike Frederick to Email me and arrange for a test drive (I'll even volunteer my Mercedes for the test drive). First we'll drive over the speed bumps at the posted speed limit on 22nd. Ave SE and next, we'll head over to 3rd., drive 5 mph slower than suggested speed and I'll put $20 on the line that Mr. Mike Frederick will need the services of a good chiropractor. Please, enough posturing, just go out there and drive and see/feel for yourself. This is an easy fix - just extend the entrance-exit sections as was done on 22nd. I do not think anyone is requesting removal, just a proper fix.

I have been out to review these speed humps, and many others across the City and agree that these speed humps are not exactly the same as the two on 22nd Avenue N, nor are they the same as many others across the City. Some are more aggressive than others that have been in for a while. The profile of an asphalt speed hump will differ from location to location and City staff tries to match their profile to our standard 3 inch parabolic design, but there will always be +/- tolerances due to the nature of asphalt being a semi-liquid.
You all must have observed a shifting roadway surface, where the asphalt seems to slide away under the constant braking of vehicles or large trucks. This may help to explain the characteristics that we are working with when trying to layer, compact and shape a 14 foot long by 28 foot wide by 3 inch at its highest point, parabolic surface. It’s not rocket science, but an onerous task to say the least. We have therefore, gone out to adjust many speed humps that lose their shape over time or flatten out. Those that have been on the high side will also flatten out over time as the asphalt is further compacted, similar to those on 22nd Avenue SE.
We appreciate your all your concerns and experiences and recognition of the diversity and limits we work with when implementing speed humps to control vehicle speeding in residential neighborhoods. We understand that the installation of speed humps is controversial, which is why we have such a public participation process to have them approved and installed.
As I have indicated in previous posts, these two speed humps are within the =/- tolerances we maintain for our speed hump profile and no additional modifications are required at this time.

Thank you for your explanation but we live here and drive this daily.....I would rather go over the curb in the yard then drive over these humps. If we were on the NE this would be changed immediately, example; 1st street & 34 ave circle complaints and has been fixed. I still think that since this is a public road a DOT must do studies prior to putting this in a main roadway. I still need to see the SIGNED petitions and if a traffic study was conducted to justify reduction of the speed limit.

Three inches high? Somehow I doubt that. They require nearly coming to a complete stop to go over without my engine falling out of my car. The damage to struts is quite disturbing. 25MPH for a major north-south roadway is not appropriate at all, I don't care who decided it. Furthermore, no one in Tropical Shores was asked what they think of having these bumps installed, as we use this road just as much as Old Southeast. How about Driftwood or Pinellas point, did anyone ask those neighborhoods? At least have the darn thinks marked with a reflective diagonal zebra pattern as I have seen on other LARGE and DANGEROUS speedbumps elsewhere. Maybe the flashing light should have been a stoplight too while you are at it, because the cars on the cross street do not want to wait until you slow down to 3MPG to go over the speed mountain, they just pull out without stopping and cut you off. Now you have another problem to solve.
