Good evening,
I was informed if there is an old ticket in the system that is open that a new ticket cannot be entered until the old ticket is closed. Since we are trying to start new this week, we need new tickets entered for addresses, streets, and neighborhoods missed after the regular scheduled pickup.
Therefore, I am closing out all tickets prior to missed tickets entered for today's regular pickup schedule. New tickets entered should be if you are missed on your regular scheduled pickup day starting from today's date.
Missed pickups can be input into MyHooverConnect or you can call our office at 205-739-7311 and we will be happy to assist placing a new ticket into the system for you.
Below is the letter from the Mayor that was sent out yesterday to registered users on MyHooverConnect regarding missed pickups.
Thank you for understanding.

Below is a letter from the Mayor:
Good evening,
I wanted to take this opportunity to inform everyone on the status of the City pertaining to garbage pickup.
As you know, we had a significant breakdown in garbage service this past week. We know several thousand homes had missed pickups. There are many factors that contributed to the breakdown; however, this isn’t the time to go into that. Please know we will be investigating this breakdown, and I will be giving a report this Wednesday at the City Council meeting.
Typically, there are about 9-thousand homes serviced each day of the week except for Sunday. So, you can see that if AmWaste gets behind two or three days, the numbers easily become exponential. This breakdown rapidly became a critical situation. The City of Hoover quickly developed an Incident Action Plan to address this significant issue as the City does with any other crisis or emergency.
Our goal these past days was to pick up as much garbage as possible and to remedy as many of the missed pickups as we possibly could. Our City of Hoover crews, crews from the City of Alabaster, as well as Amwaste, have been working through the holidays with limited resources to address the situation.
Note: Thank you again Alabaster Mayor Scott Brakefield. Your staff was amazing!
Our Public Works Department, Fire Department and City Hall personnel have staffed the phones at City Hall, picked up garbage, and developed and staffed garbage drop off points to reduce the time a garbage truck must travel to the dump. They have also provided intel on which neighborhoods have or have not been serviced.
So where do we go from here?
There were seven trucks out today collecting garbage. Over the last three days, the crews have made significant progress; unfortunately, all missed pickups will not be completed.
I’ve talked with AmWaste leadership, and they have assured me that tomorrow, Tuesday, January 2, 2024, they will have full service restored. With this commitment, we must get back as quickly as possible to our normal schedule.
Once today’s work is completed, we will begin fresh. Tuesday, we will start on our normal schedule.
I realize coming off of another holiday schedule will challenging. We will be monitoring closely and intervene quickly. As a result, I ask that residents please forgo submitting any missed garbage ticket request unless beginning Tuesday, January 2, 2024, your house is missed.
I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. Also, please be assured that we will be working very hard to avoid this situation from happening again.
Thank you,
Mayor Frank V. Brocato
