Description

Segamore St. has 3 lanes in each direction. Only one lane merges onto the 2 west-bound lanes of Brotherhood Way. The entrance to Brotherhood Way can support a 2-lane merge from Segamore. During high traffic periods, the backup on Segamore is long and people drive crazy, speed, and make illegal lane changes to get in the far right lane at the last minute. An additional merge lane onto Brotherhood Way would make the merge much safer and faster.

Clearly from the size of the lane splitting off of Sagamore to Brotherhood, this was originally built to allow the two rightmost lanes turn right. Currently, it is artificially restricted by the way that the striping is painted on the road. Putting it back to the original intent would greatly ease this hazardous traffic situation, and shouldn't cost too much either.

I have no idea why this was restricted to one lane but one cause of this problem is that people drive fast in the middle lane to avoid the slower right lane, then cut in at the last minute. Add to that tentative drivers and you have a dangerous situation. I myself have been in an accident at that location but for the opposite reason - the driver in the right turn-only lane decided to go straight ahead instead and I, in the middle lane and going straight, was hit.
