This has only gotten worse year after year with no fixes. Someone is going to get severely injured and the damage will get worse without a fix.

Please fix this issue. It's a significant hazard for drivers and pedestrians, and it's only getting worse.

This has been an ongoing problem for years with temporary "fixes" like blacktop and sheet metal that, as indicated by the pics, is insufficient.

Not only are there numerous cars and trucks passing by daily, but many deliveries happen within feet of this menace which is right next to the entrance of a parking lot. And, don't forget the students that walk by on their way to and from classes.

This cannot possibly be considered a solution.

This isn't any less dangerous than it was before. It looks no more stable, and with students walking past and large delivery trucks driving over the plate the asphalt will soon crumble again. This is not a solution.

There's no excuse for the shoddiness of this "fix." The plates are still unstable and are only masking the huge, dangerous hole beneath! Cars and large delivery trucks drive over this spot daily, and that weight will shift or collapse the plates again in no time.

Lame. This is the same "fix" that has been carried out since this sinkhole opened up. It never lasts, and the sinkhole continues to expand. The problem has NOT been fixed, just covered over. The big orange barrel on top of this mess proves that this current "fix" is inadequate, unstable and unsustainable. This has been going on for almost two years. FIX IT ALREADY! Fix the gas leak. Fill in the sinkhole. Cover it and make it drivable, walkable, permanent and safe.

Issue has been referred to DTE for possible gas leak. Reference number for DTE#79034854.

DTE had this listed as 51 West Hancock, not 40 West Hancock. They have still not fixed it, and they closed the ticket. This is absolutely unacceptable.

Upon investigation per J. Holmes steel plate has shifted and a stake is sticking out of the ground. This issue has been referred to DWSD on 5-6-2015. (NW)

If by "stake sticking out of the ground" you mean "covered by a big orange barrel, two warning sawhorses and a crushed up orange cone with no stake anywhere near this debacle" then yes, there is a "stake sticking out of the ground". And if by "steel plate has shifted" you mean "both steel plates have again (for the third or fourth time) been moved back over this 2-year old sink hole and only partially patched around the edges with soon to be worn asphalt so that the plates can move again in the future further exposing us to a traffic and trip and fall hazard and the smell of leaking gas" then yes, the steel plate has shifted.

Thank you for your comment, Andy. I'm surprised this is still an issue. It's a glaring problem that should be easy to fix!

Steel plate was repositioned by Street Maintenance DPW per N. Alvarado on 5-7-2015. This issue has been referred to DTE reference # 79034854 on 4-27-2015 and it was also referred to DWSD on 4-6-2015.

Referred is not the same as fixed. How 'bout we leave this issue open until this bad boy gets filled in?
