Description
Water main replacement work was done two months ago. The patches on Sea Street are bad enough that they are starting to create significant wear on my car's suspension system. The work done was sub-standard and entirely unacceptable for a major emergency route in and out of the area.

Liz,
Thanks for using the SCF system.
As I'm sure you know, we're in the midst of a full-scale repair project down on Sea Street. The first part, which was completed in 2011, involved the replacement of the water main. We wait over the winter for that work to settle, then we perform complete road reconstruction in the following spring.
The interim period between water main replacement and full scale repaving is a difficult one, as a patch over such a large project never fully matches the state the road was in beforehand.
We will, however, continue to send down DPW crews to perform repairwork along this stretch of Sea Street. Stay tuned to the City's homepage for more information on the project as it becomes available.

No mention of a start date to resume work?
Please escalate the issue with the DPW and the Mayor and reply with a date on which this work will begin. "Spring" is a little vague.

Repaving along Sea Street starts tomorrow. Work should be completed by April 24th. One lane of traffic will be open at all times, with a police detail directing folks through the area.

Agreed! If the current patching job that was done in April is considered to be the repairs, then I am rather enraged by the city's horrendous work. While work HAS been done on this street recently, driving down it regularly right now is still enough to make one's teeth rattle.
Repave the damned road already.
Or you can expect that myself and other residents of this area will be sending you the bill for repairing the suspension system on our cars. I just had to have mine redone after only 2 years of owning the vehicle in question. How's about you, Randy?

Liz, I think my suspension has nearly had it as well.
I sit in awe hearing that taxes are increasing this year, that workers are currently hard at work REROUTING A BROOK, and that this issue has taken so long to resolve.

We're still here. As I've said all along, this is the first repaving project that the City is undertaking this year. We are using Chapter 90 State road repair funds to perform this work. The State, as you may have read, is in the final stages of budget deliberations. Once the funding is released from the State, the final repaving of Sea Street will begin as soon as possible. I am going to keep you all up to date as soon as I have any definitive information on the exact start date.

Sorry I didnt realize the typical response time from you was a week or longer. Perhaps if you had set the expectation earlier that the repairs would be contingent upon obtaining money from the state, residents would have been more patient, and not sold us on a "repair work starting tomorrow folks!" line.
I am pasting your statement from 28 days ago below in case you wish to comment further:
"Hi folks,
Repaving along Sea Street starts tomorrow. Work should be completed by April 24th. One lane of traffic will be open at all times, with a police detail directing folks through the area. "

Please just get this done, City of Quincy. Another week has passed and still nothing. The road is all but unusable. We cannot wait for a long budget process to be finished. The city has the funds for many projects that are underway (and numerous court battles might I add) so its time to get it rolling. I pay my taxes on an overvalued house, and understand the rates will be increasing this year. I also vote.
I am going to begin calling city hall, as I dont think this site has been very productive, and I would go so far to say it has been counter productive based on the misinformation that was given by the city (as cited in my post below). I encourage all on here with an interest in this issue to also call the city as well as our esteemed Ward 1 councilor.
