When considering the possibility of a traffic signal at a given location, we are required to follow the guidelines set forth in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The MUTCD, a Federal Highway Administration document that is used nationally and adopted by Maryland and its jurisdictions, outlines minimum requirements to ensure that traffic signals are used where they are found to be justified through a comprehensive and objective analysis.

While a volume/turning movement count cannot be accurately conducted until the school year resumes, steps are being taken to provide a more visible advance warning of the intersection to motorists. Thank you for your patience.

Installation of a traffic circle would function best and cost the least to install and maintain long term.

Is there an update on this case? I know Councilman Weinstein claimed that a new traffic signal was in the works. A timeline of when that will be implemented would be good to know!

Howard County - Any update on this intersection study? This case is 3 years old and still hasn't been addressed by anyone.

Thank you for your inquiry. Please note that the Bureau of Engineering Division (410-313-2414) plans to initiate a study to analyze alternatives that would alleviate congestion at the subject location. Once the outcome of the study is available, we would be glad to share it with you.
