Why does the city keep closing these midge flies and soon to be mosquito complaints? The problem has not been resolved, how dare you close these complaints when you have not adequately fixed the problem?! I don’t believe the city has a clue to how fix a problem that has been systemically getting worse every year and why is that?, oh that’s right, BECAUSE THE CITY INCREASED THE MUD PIT MIDGE FLY AND MOSQUITO BREADING GROUNDS BY DOUBLE, AND WE PAID FOR IT!!!!! And let’s not forget that we also funded the concrete parking lot and some randomly lit walking path lights, which were a complete waste, because no one uses the area more than once because the flying pest and nasty swamp smell makes you never want to come back. And then the city’s website tries to put the blame on it’s citizens by telling us to eliminate standing water from our property, and to keep swimming pools treated and circulating - HOW ABOUT YOU PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!!!!!! And what is the city going to do about the fact that the flying pest issue has migrated into the adjoining Bridges neighborhood green spaces, that are being sustained by the water from the recharge stations - does any one else see the irony of this situation? I would gladly give up the green spaces that are sustained by the water from the South Recharge Station, because if I can’t enjoy the green spaces because of the out of control flying pests what’s the point in having them? This is Arizona, we live to be outdoors, walking, biking, swimming, golfing and those of us who live near the recharge station are held hostage in our houses from March - November because of midge flies through spring and VIRUS CARRYING MOSQUITOS from spring to fall. This problem has been going on for far too long and the city has proven they CANNOT get the problem under control, I have only been dealing with it for 3 years but my neighbors have told me it’s been going on the the entire 8 years they have lived in our neighborhood. The time has come for the effected communities to get a lawyer and get the bug infested, smelly swamp otherwise knows as the Gilbert South Recharge Station shut down, at this point, I think the infestation is so bad that there is nothing else to be done. Let’s come together as a community and see what we can do to get this larva breading ground that is ruining our neighborhood and outdoor experience shut down, moved, whatever it takes!
We have received the notification regarding the midge fly issue at the South Recharge Facility. The Recharge group is working diligently to resolve this issue. Over the past few weeks, we have taken drastic actions.
• Diverted a considerable amount of reuse water to other zones.
• Reduced the amount of water each basin is receiving and switching the basins more frequently.
• Fogging pesticide within the Recharge facility and the adjacent streets.
• Continuous dosing of larvicides, in multiple forms, to the recharge basins.
We are hopeful these actions will reduce, if not eliminate, the midge fly population.
