The Town previously painted and provided minimal maintenance to private fences along town open spaces and right-of-ways. After a final round of fence maintenance, the town will no longer provide this service.
Discontinuing the service comes after the Board of Trustees considered the liabilities the town has when providing maintenance on private property and the "inequitable publicly-funded benefit extended to only residents bordering town-owned property."
The town website acknowledges the transition can be confusing as some residents may not be aware that they own the fence on their property. The usual policy found across Colorado is that the fence sits on private property and is the responsibility of the homeowner. Fence regulations can vary greatly depending on the neighborhood.
