Motorist safety if very important to UDOT and our partners, including UHP, and we do everything we can to remind drivers how important it is. Our goal is Zero Fatalities because any other goal is unacceptable when you remember that each number is someone's loved one. Last year there were 256 fatalities, 68 of them were related to aggressive driving which includes speeding. I spoke with the Utah Highway Safety Office and the day you noticed the increase was an educational outreach effort to try and curb the number of deaths we see during the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer. Compared to the rest of the year we see a 35 percent rise in the number of fatalities between Memorial Day and Labor Day. I know it can seem like a nuisance but the troopers I have met truly want each and every person to make it home safely. I hope you'll keep the goal in mind and remember to always buckle up and never drive drowsy, distracted, aggressive or impaired.
