Where does it go? Point me to a product I can buy. The act of recycling uses resources. Production of those awful blue dumpsters used energy. Where will they go when they break down?

They would be recycled as well. Have you never seen things that have been made out of recycled materials? They are everywhere.

I will be participating, and I'm looking forward to receiving my blue bin, but each person will ultimately choose whether or not she or he separate garbage into recyclable / non-recyclable items. Personally the fact that recycling is currently inefficient is not a deal breaker for me. I believe we are on a path to more efficient / effective recycling, but it starts somewhere and this is it.

At this time, we are unable to prevent a recycling container being delivered to your address. Our vendor will be able to remove your container when the citywide delivery schedule is complete. In the meantime, we encourage you to consider the overall benefits offered by Universal Residential Curbside Recycling and give it a try.

If you still wish to return your container, please email your request, including your name and the address where the container is located, to CurbsideRecycling@stpete.org after July 1. You will be contacted with a date and instructions on where to place the container for vendor pick up.

We should be allowed to opt out of this program.
No one ever told us we had to pay for two. The back building is empty and no one even lives there.
This is an absurd request you are asking.You should be paying me to house these ugly containers.

You will be contacted with a date and instructions on where to place the container for vendor pick up. The monthly fee will still be charged regardless of whether or not the container is returned.

My husband called Wed. to come and get the cans.
Today they came and took only one. I don't need two. We have no tenants!!!
please come and take it out of the street.

They use to have people who sorted the recyclables. I guess they lost their jobs. What a shame!

I went from having to take out my trash one or two times a week for a household of 2 people. Now, I take out my trash once a month since recycling started in all of St. Pete. I used to take recycling once a week before we switched but I like the once every two weeks. It's a lot easier not having to sort it. I do not understand what people's problems are - except they are lazy and do not care about keeping a planet that isn't filled with glass that will never break down. You have two containers now - yeah it isn't pretty if you do not have a place to store both of them ... but I bet 95% plus of the things you throw in the trash can be recycled. I love the mandatory recycling. I recycled at 10 years of age - came to Florida and was appalled by this City not having it. I'm now 44 - as of today! I commend St. Pete for finally getting this right. I do not think that they should do alley pickup just because someone lives in Kenwood or wherever - the area is all crack peddlers on bikes at night. Heaven forbid they use the street for parking AND recycling and have to take a chance on parking their cars in the skeevy alley.

If someone is truly recycling and composting they will have very little trash to be picked up. If a well informed resident were to opt out of something I'd think it would be the trash pick up. It's disappointing to see that fellow residents are not on-board with being environmentally responsible.
