All of the stop lights along Hiawatha are AWFUL. They promised when they put the light rail in that it would not affect traffic. Wasn't that a lie ? A light will turn green, yellow and red a lot of times which only allows maybe one or two cars to move on Hiawatha during rush hour. This is pretty bad. Maybe follow some of the other cities like Phoenix where the light rail has to stop at lights just like the cars do. Makes traffic there run much smoother.
There have even been several days this year, outside of the Sabo bridge issue, where in mild traffic I will be stopped at 13 red lights out of the 10 stoplights during the 3:15 PM commute.
We have submitted a service request to our Traffic Department. Your reference number is 911279 and your case should be addressed by June 8th, 2012 if not sooner.

We appreciate your post. Hiawatha is impacted by the Light Rail. If these issues occurred when the emergency pre-emption light was not flashing, please let us know and provide details (date, time, direction of travel, what intersection, etc.) of the complaint.
If there is anything else we can help you with please contact us. Thank you for notifying the City of Minneapolis.
i.e. If the Hiawatha and 35th St intersection is triggered red, the south-to-north 35th St intersection is permitted through, the arms lower, and the green light that permits the Hiawatha traffic to flow again stays green for approximately thirteen seconds.
If the LRT gate is down, traffic going the direction of the train gets a green light as the train enters the intersection as opposing traffic sits at a red light for no apparent reason. When the gate is down, both directions of parallel traffic should be green. When no train, give cross traffic a full minute. Someone made it way too complicated by tying LRT operations to emergency cycling of lights.
I am new to this state. I commute from Apple Valley to Roseville every day. I have never seen such bad light timing in my life. What a waste of four good lanes. Some if the poorest planning ever.
