Help!
American Environmental is a bad match for a residential neighborhood. Over the past year (off and on) I've called them, emailed, called the police, and contacted my Ward representative. Nothing has changed. American Environmental was at it again with incredibly loud banging noise that jarred me from sleep at 5:30 this morning. I'm not a light sleeper. Their noise is unacceptably loud!!! Now, at 6:45 they are smashing window pains in the back of a cavernous semi truck. This is typical of the sounds that come from their lot which abuts a residential neighborhood. We have the right to quiet enjoyment of our homes.

The creation of a loud and excessive noise in connection with loading or unloading any vehicle or the opening and destruction of bales, boxes, crates and containers. The emptying of bulk waste containers located within 1,000 feet of a residentially zoned parcel shall be prohibited between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

It seems that 4:50AM continues to be their bewitching hour. In addition to the noise, the outside storage area appears to exceed what the zoning bylaws allow. Another disturbing element: they have added a large tank in the lot that probably contains some kind of flammable liquid (gas/oil?) that is surrounded by blocks (in case of leakage?)
To rephrase the above complaint, as it still goes on all the time: They drive semi trucks in to an area less than 1000 ft from a residential neighborhood, put the truck in reverse (beep beep beep!!!) and then remove a huge metal container from the truck bed (loud scraping of metal, machinery groaning, and engines running) and then leave. Sometimes it's only ten minutes of loud disturbing noise. Enough time to ruin my sleep at 4:45 in the morning, but not enough time to call police. Sometimes it goes on for hour or more. One never knows whether they will get a full nights sleep or not.
In their general operations they're making loud noises randomly on any given day of the week - Monday through Sunday. Of late they have been chain sawing large trees (presumably removed from Mt. Tom.)
They continue to disregard the noise ordinance or have respect for their neighbors right to quiet enjoyment of their homes.
What ever happened to all the wonderful city plans for this part of town? Originally this was a retail establishment and complimentary with a residential neighborhood. Now it is unabashed industrial. This is a bad business to have in a residential neighborhood. Please please please Mayor, do something about this!!!

Thank you so much. The mayor is and has been fully aware of the situation. I was told about a year ago they were moving. No sign of that. I was told about a month ago that the City of Holyoke and it’s appropriate offices are working to resolve this problem.
BTW they have high powered Spot lights aimed directly at the Grover Street townhouses that are on all night. These are blindingly bright. Which, on the one hand, makes the need for streetlights unnecessary, but is mighty unpleasant when you try to look out your window However, that agrivation is a drop in the bucket compared to the noise.
This business called “American Environmental” ironically makes this part of the neighborhood an unpleasant environment ... 😱 HELP!!!
