This still hasn't been addressed. Just now I spoke on the phone to a representative from Union Pacific Railroad (888-877-7267). He looked at the site on Google Maps and told me that this section of track is not actually on Union Pacific property, but rather an "industry track" that belongs to California Cereal Products. I plan to follow up with Oakland Public Works to confirm who exactly is responsible.
Sebastian thank you for UPR number. If this belongs to Calif Cereal Products where is code enforcement? Oh I forgot that's not there dept. I am sure cereal and grain products are on there minds.
I have spoken with the city regarding this issue- as they were unaware who owned the land. I tracked down the owners of the land- it's not Union Pacific or the cereal factory-
But even though I did the work to get e ownership cleared up the issue has still not been resolved the issue and our neighborhood is blighted-
I had assurances from several city employees and am deeply unimpressed with their lack of follow through.
I spoke with Maurice at Code Enforcement (510-238-3381) this morning. He got back to me at the end of the day to tell me that an inspection has been scheduled for this Thursday, 7/23 and assigned the case number #1502565. I will follow up next week per his recommendation.
No one seems concerned that there are homeless people living- (and that includes using the area as a toilet)- on the border of a good production facility- the cereal factory on 14th and union st- there is a permanent encampment and the area is full of trash and refuse- it's disgusting.
I have brought it to the attention of the city many times and they have never responded to my queries about the health and food safety issues-
A bit worrying.
City leaders don't care, or have no solutions, or don't have or want to spend money on the homeless. They are spending thousands cleaning the same spots up over again, but not solutions. It's an unhealthy mess for all. If city leaders continue to have no respect for all neighborhoods, than no one else will.
I called Code Enforcement back today, gave them the case number, and got the contact information for the inspector, Randy, who performed the inspection last week.
I called Randy and he informed me that this morning he issued a blight notice to the property owners (the cereal factory) that included the broken, unsecure fence, and the trash. They have 30 days to comply. If they do not, the first fee he can hit them with is $2,600. He suggested I call him back in a week for an update.
