Even though they are picking up the blue bin, they will still charge $3 monthly!

I just wanted to say that I was taking my recycling stuff to the crescent lake drop off location and I'm okay with $3 a month and I don't have to haul it down there myself.

This whole blue bin is BS! Being bullied by the city yet still. Some things never change. # dollarsmis a lot to some families. That is milk bread or eggs.The alleyways still look like crap some residents property looks like crap and the parking Oh My goodness. If they enforce and ticketed these violators the city would not have to TAKE from some families tables.....The city should be ashamed of the conditions of the city and not force services upon the poor.

Thats 2.5 million the city is making off of us...not to mention what they make on your items. Instead of spending $50 million on the Pier so someone can get their name put on a plaque...this prograam could have been free to the citizens for once. Its funny how the city can hand over the "Keys to the City " to any developer who comes down the road selling snake oil, yet they want nickle dime us to death at every turn. Tropican Field was another bust. Build it and they will come. Yea right. Low attendance because that was jammed down out throats years ago. Now with this program, less will go to the game or out to eat in order to to pay for these eyesore containers the city is making millions off of. And I thought the red light cameras was a scam...this one takes the cake.

I agree that this blue bin thing was handled very poorly by the City. I hope the mayor's action center is listening to these discussions. Ultimately people should have been given a choice in whether or not they have to pay / have a bin. They should also publish the financials showing exactly how much it costs vs. how much money is made from the recycled materials. The way it was handled feels heavy handed. By the way, I was already recycling on my own for free, but I will probably use the new bin...because I have room for one and I have a big gate. Some people don't. Also, the time, effort and gas it takes me to load up my truck with my recycling and take it to the drop off location costs me about $3..so it's a wash for me, but not everyone is in the same boat. Some people don't have $3 more each month. I know we are supposed to be a "green city." I know that other green cities do the same kind of recycling program, but this could have been handled much, much better. It seems like the pier issue would have taught the city leadership about the importance of giving St Pete residents a choice. If I'm wrong about any of the things I've stated, I apologize. This is just how I see things with the information I have at this time.

You would think that businesses and condos would generate a lot of items, but they are being excluded. Why? And only certain neighborhoods have the dang blue bins. Why? The council needs to remember that many of us are registered voters!

SMH (shake my head)...That is not the right way to go about making her point. If she makes snarky posts instead of engaging in a meaningful discussion, she's lost my vote.

That's right. Pay attention to what these self-serving idgets that are running this city continue to ram down our throats. It is time for a change and the people need to make it loud and clear that we are fed up with the communist approach. The Kriseman regime is no better than the last several reigns of terror provided by the previous mayors.

I am also upset that I am being charged the base fee for 1000 gallons for water and sewer when I do not use that much water. Trying to conserve water is a joke! And now I'll have to pay an extra $3 for something I am unable to use.

I love the new recycling program and couldn't wait for it to start. I hated the old little bins, they never held enough stuff. I don;t want to load this stuff in my car to take it somewhere and I don't want to see trash going into a land fill when is can be recycled. And I'm not one that resists change. I was happy to finally see movement on getting a new pier and an end to the idea we needed a new upside down pyramid. Change is good.

It's not about antirecycycling or change. It's about antibureaucracy!

Who put you in charge?

Its a con job by a mayor that really does not care about homeowners. It cute and politically correct in his little world. If you truly consider the cost savings of the regular garbage truck in fuel by having recycling and thus not having to make as many trips to the dump during the day and the longer life of the landfill and the longer life of regular garbage truck because it just lasts longer- The city should be PAYING US for recycling.

For older people who live alone, this makes no sense whatsoever. How much debris could they generate?? But still they will charge $3. And we have NO choice.

I live alone and save by getting garbage pickup once a week and then they come along with this charge. I returned the can and don't believe that it saves anything after you look at the cost of washing bottles and processing plastic and other items. No one has ever given us credit for have one of the most successful waste to energy plants in Florida. I don't make enough recyclable waste to put that can out once per month.

Its such a joke.

They ignored us with the pier.

They are going to take all unhealthy foods out of city vending machines by the end of 2016. What besides water can go into a vending machine that is healthy? Oh, nuts...well we have those already in city hall at every desk.

I only take out my regular trash dumpster every few weeks because I don't have enough to fill it and it's hard for me to walk out there with it. Not to mention the recycling bin!
