I agree Anthony, as a homeowner on this street it is very annoying at time getting in & out of the driveway when cars are simply being in-courteous to others by driving well above the posted speed limit. You would think they'd understand that this is a residential area. Anyone ever notice how they tailgate you when your trying to keep an eye out for kids by staying in the 25 mph speed range.
Off from work one morning because of a doctors appointment and I notice it is even worse during morning rush hour traffic. People rushing to jobs or school have no concern about the neighborhood. Strategically place speed bumps would help, Going to try to get video footage one day to post it so that others can see how dangerous it is some days.

Your right J!!! My brother-in-law while having my niece and nephew in the car, got hit by a speeding car on Lenox st. I my self was struck by a car because the person was speeding. I will try to record video as well. I leave to work around 7:30, when Uretek's third shift ends and first begins, and you can see the workers rushing in and out. Good idea!

I'll say that the speed bumps have done very very little on Lexington , of course if they were built right they might but as it is now they dont slow many people down and if they do the drivers race between them. I vote for cops to take radar once a month(if they even do that in New Haven)

There are no speed bumps on Quinnipiac. Nobody would consent to having a speed bump in front of their home. You only get the sound of cars jamming on the brakes, the boom as they drive over and then the sound of them quickly accelerating away. They don't make anything safer, they just create noise.

The Heights needs a constant police presence. Ticketing speeders on all four long stretches of road until we get a reputation as an expensive place to speed. All the other options are expensive gestures that don't truly prevent anything.

I agree with that. Good idea.

Speedbumps on Lenox and Quinnipiac would help a lot. They would make it impossible for cars to clock 60 miles an hour, which they do on a regular basis. Speedbumps are effectively slowing traffic on Front St.

We can still get them, or elevated crosswalks. We just need to apply political pressure.

I too get aggressively tailgated on Lexington for going the speed limit. It almost seems that Lenox could be a 15-20mph street, especially down on the factory end. Maybe some stop signs could help on Oxford and Aner both on Lenox and Lexington ave. Then we would have stop signs, speedbumps and no police taking radar... ahhh...(blood pressure rising)

To help those looking for the Engineering webpage, you have to click on the City Departments tab at the top first, then Scroll down to the Engineering Department webpage. The manual is 117 pages long and I plan on reading it this weekend before I comment again.

I think this Complete streets manual is kind of pathetic, it seems to me that reworking layouts of streets is WAY more costly than an occasional cop taking radar. Its almost a diversion tactic.

For your sake I hope they put REAL speed bumps & NOT what they put on Lexington. Ours are useless.

FYI ~ I live on Lexington & the so-called bumps are far too low & useless except to dirt bikers who use them for "wheelies"!! The ones are Front St. are much better & do force cars to slow down. On lexington, cars, etc. speed & are not deterred whatsoever by what are called speed bumps.

As a resident of Lenox Ave I would also support any signs or addition of speed bumps if it slows people down. I am really tired of speeders riding the rear of my car because I refuse to travel more than 25 mph on Lenoz or any other residential street in the area. Speeding is also a problem on Quinnipiac ave and even at the 5 miles over the speed limit that I tend to drive on the Q at 30 mph isn't fast enough for some people. Fortunately the cops have been trying to prevent the problem as I have notice the occasional patrols on Lenox st.

Sarah: We prepared a Complete Streets packet last year requesting traffic calming measures and have never received any response.

I've been complaining about the uselessness of the ridiculously low speed bumps on Lexington ever since they were put there. It has been years & nothing has changed. Good luck Lenox Ave. :-(
