The homeless are offered help and they don't want it. The city needs to find a huge lot somewhere, put washrooms and plenty of trash cans and that's where they need to camp. The homeless have gotten away with doing way to much and the city needs to start doing something. I thought camping in a park was against the law. They do it because the city allows it.

This is in the Frog Park where children play. Having a safe atmosphere for the children is the most important thing for a neighborhood. I am sick of our neighborhood slowly becoming a shanty town. Please eject these people, as they create an atmosphere of filth and danger.

Wow. .. where are the priorities in this city. There's no way the homeless should be allowed to camp in any park. Why don't they have to follow laws? They do it because they know they can and it needs to stop.

City of Oakland park rules are that no one can be in parks (with a few exceptions for lighted ballfields) from sunset to sunrise. These men have camped out here for days on end, creating structures and shelters. Despite having a bathroom open during park hours, at least of of them defecates in the play areas at night. Some have started small fire by the basketball courts and even cooked on a little barbecue there, leaving burned trash the next day. Some of them have intimidated, sworn at and thrown things at people walking to the park, especially women (and caregivers) with small children who feel especially vulnerable. This is a community park and the only place for kids to play in the neighborhood, and park rules need to be enforced. For years we were told to call Operation Dignity but they were not able to do anything. It is time to move these men out of the park at night and into whatever supportive housing they need to get off the street and out ofFrog Park.

I was told by operation dignity that they couldn't do anything either on another occasion, but public works says they can. If they can't what are they doing? Call them and ask for the number of Mr. Mike Church. Couldn't find his number but got it through operation dignity. The homeless need to be told that parks are not a camping ground, but Oakland allows them to do as they please and that's the issue.

As of Tuesday evening (6/30/2015) the camp appears to have been abandoned. There's still a bunch of junk left behind that needs to be cleaned up. I will report that separately as a new issue.

Of course, I think PW closed all of these because their old, but they ought to know by now they'll have to reopen it. The homeless do not belong in parks that kids play in. Disgusting. I guess Oakland enforces no laws.
