Description

There's a long segment of the pathway along this area which has an extreme drop off which can easily cause a very serious accident if/ when someone steps off the edge or happens to veer off the edge with a bicycle, wheelchair or other wheeled device. Our bike shop on the MSU campus sees this sort of accident as the most common type of accident involving bicycles when they attempt to pass pedestrians or others on the pathway; they crash when they attempt to get back on the pathway from the grass. Parts of this area also have a very steep embankment so someone falling off the edge could have a serious tumble down a long hillside. The wooden railing along here isn't long enough to cover the dangerous area of the steep hillside.
