I also heard these in Westville New Haven. Definitely thought it was too late.

It was on the Housatonic River in the Maples in Shelton. Yes, they hire a professional company and have a permit from both the state and local Fire Marshals. It's an annual event, it's free and many thousands of people watch from Derby to Newtown as it can be seen for miles up and down the river and from the hills on both sides. It ended at 10:30. Yes, because it's in a narrow river valley it echoes for quite a distance. It's a better show than most of those put on by towns. But really, you want to complain about fireworks on Independence Day weekend? It's once a year! It can't be held on the 4th because it's impossible to hire a professional firm on that day. Please don't whine and take this away from the thousands of children and adults that look forward to this annual event.

You may have also heard other fireworks coming from somewhere between Bungay Rd in Seymour and Nolan Field in Ansonia. They weren't as loud but they continued after the show on the river was over. I heard loud fireworks on all sides of Great Hill until Midnight. But it's only once a year. C'mon!

These were the ones coming from Bungay Road. AND THEY WERE TILL AFTER 11!!!! I should know because it woke me up at 10 and I sat at my kitchen table until 11 waiting for it to stop as my dog was howling and shaking and didn't fall asleep until 12 .You come on. Most people work on Monday. Sorry Mr. Planner but until 10 should be fine. I don't know what time you get up but I get up at 5.

Yes, I'm up at 5 as well. I have had newborns awakened, I have animals that don't like fireworks too. You're not unique.
I'm just saying, it's one holiday a year. Hardly worth complaining about after the fact. It's over. You can't catch everyone with commercial mortars after 10pm.

Okay well I agree with the original comment. I also heard those fireworks and I get up around 5, I don't know your age Planner but I am 60 and work in a hot factory all day and need more than 5 hours sleep. AND it it usually alot more than 1 day a year now that fireworks are sold in stores. Does it take one small child to get hurt before anyone looks?

Honestly one day a year, celebrating our freedoms is nothing. I am single mom, been employed full time (even worked 3 jobs at one time) working over 30+ years commute almost an hour daily - guess my age, whatever. Raised my little ones, now helping with my grandkids and take care of my home and family. You are not the only one, patience is a virtue. I will agree the days even weeks after, can be a nuisance, I suggest instead of complaining on this page, contact the local authorities.

I understand that people are stressed and need to sleep, but a little community patriotism and gratefulness for our Independence helps some people to not just take our rights for granted.

I don't think that lighting bombs off at 11pm is being patriotic. It's called being an arsehole and disturbing the peace and it's against the law. What happened to people obeying the LAW????? The fireworks that go up and make nice colors on July 4th are nice but these pinheads that continue to light off "bombs" after the 4th are just plain pinheads. I would like to use a better adjective but can't on here. In my neighborhood they are several elderly folks, one is so very frail that she can't leave her home and the priest comes every week and give her communion. What happens to her when dynamite goes off??? Don't these pinheads think about anyone besides themselves? Of course not, that's why they are pinheads!!! What about that Iraqi, Afghanistan or Vietnam war veteran that lives next door to you, do you think they like the bombs going off next to them? I have a very large pinhead that lives next to me and he has lit off a few bombs since the 4th and if he does it tonight I might be calling the police on him. Maybe he feels inadequate in parts of his life and feels the need to let everyone know he lives there.

There is a time and place to celebrate your patriotism and it shouldn't be listening to bombs in your back yard. It's at city sponsored displays where safety is practiced. Lighting off bombs in your back yard is not celebrating your patriotism! It's called stupidity and being disrespectful.

I agree. Most of the people lighting these things off don't even know what Independence stands for. They think it is all about lighting fireworks, making noise, having a day off and gorging on hamburgs and hot dogs all day. And as for the comment by Sue as using this page to "complain", what about free speech?????

If you want to show your patriotism then volunteer at a local hospital or animal shelter, help your elderly neighbor out when you can, and do something for someone to help them out. Lighting off fireworks is not showing your patriotism.

Wow "Neighbor", not all are bombs... Hey try some Chai tea instead of coffee, it is over. Like I said before if they are lighting more than fireworks, call the authorities. It is patriotism, and "Guest" it is only a handful of people that do not care, many of us participate in the sacred sacrifice that my Dad and family and friends made and continue to make with great respect. Get over this or call the cops...whatever! Complaining about the fireworks here does NO ONE any good. This page is not linked to 911 or the local police department dispatch at the time it happens. BTW using the term "Freedom of Speech" is perfectly fine, but you are all complaining. Big difference is to do something about it and get over this, it will happen again next year.

Sue Liscinsky, in my neighborhood they are bombs now. Like I said the one that when off last night sounded like dynamite. The lady across the street walking the dog was taken aback. There is no reason for those types of fireworks. They are not legal in CT. It's also a lack of respect for your neighbors. Fat boy is getting his jollies off and letting us no he lives there.
