Description
This morning All-American Waste woke up the entire neighborhood at 4 a.m., picking up trash from several apartment buildings in the Orange and Bishop area. They remained in the area for nearly a half hour in violation of New Haven's 7 am garbage-hauling limit. They have been doing the same for weeks. The driver indicated the neighborhood had "just been added to the route. " This company is a consistent repeat offender in this and other neighborhoods. Why aren't they cited by NHPD or Public Works? Why do they think they can schedule hauling against the law?

I have lived off Orange St for 15 yrs and the garbage always has been collected around 4am. Every so often I hear them, but it's no louder than the trains, and certainly quieter than the fire station I live by.
Noise is part of living in a city and I don't think the garbage pick up routine will change, so I would try to figure a way to live with it.

This is a clear violation of a New Haven law.
And clearly the companies fear nothing from City Hall.
If you talk to the drivers of the trucks making all this noise, they'll tell you--often very politely--that they're only following orders. The companies know City Hall will do nothing to enforce this law. Their drivers may have to get yelled at by angry people awakened for nothing; what do the business owners care?
Are there hefty campaign contributions on the line here? What else would prevent City Hall from slapping a hefty fine on companies displaying such cynical disregard for New Haven citizens?

1+ to Oron.
This isn't the suburbs. I've been woken by trash collectors for years. Never felt compelled to cry about it.
With a large percentage of this city's residents living below the poverty line, there are far more deserving targets for the city's attention.
If you crave quiet, pay more and live someplace quiet. Or just learn to adjust to living in a noisy city.
