Description
sand, overhangs, and ill advised Stop signs along madaket bike path.
Dangerous sand levels along western half since July 1
Bikes can't make sudden stops in sand, they generally ignore stopsigns, or veer into the road (see tracks in pic), either is safer than stopping in sand. Cyclists think they have right of way over cars regardless of signs.

Stop signs for cyclists are extremely important. Cyclists should stop at every intersection to make sure cars see them. Cyclists do not have the right of way over roads. There are crazy drivers on vacation and some of them do not stop at stop signs. Be safe and stop and avoid injury.
Sand should be swept up - I agree that is a cyclist safety hazard. The town DPW has a sweeper for the bike paths but it is busy sweeping all bike paths island wide.

I agree about what they should. do but in practice excessive stops especially in sand increase danger, I can post some video of what I meanr.
Aside from that issue, it appears the new machine was just used, perhaps on july 8 before I took pics. One laborer sweeping 1-2 hours per week would be as effective if not more so.
Either way the sweeping needs to be redone and more frequently.

not sure what to do here - should we create a separate post only for the ongoing sand issue?
here's another pic from a few days ago, east of cambridge st intersection - it seems like some sort of sweeper made tracks in the sand, but didn't remove it...

as of a few days ago, madaket path looks clean and rideable, best it's ever been! would be great to have a weekly sweep on the western third for july and august...
anyway thank you very much for following up on this!
