It's not just the aesthetics, though it is certainly not attractive. When people don't take care of their property and let weeds grow six feet tall, they flower and drop seeds everywhere, not only in their own yards but in surrounding yards as well, making is just that much harder for people who care, to take care of their own property. In addition, it affects the value of the surrounding properties. I can understand how the village may have difficulties in cases of foreclosure but to me it's appalling how many Flossmoor properties that are occupied by their owners have become such unsightly messes. It hurts all of us. Residents should not have to report these things. It's clear where the problems are just by driving through some of these neighborhoods. Very sad. It didn't used to be like this here. People used to care.
Ironically, just recently they did clean up their yard . . . somewhat. Certainly better than it was but they have a history of big cleanups and then letting it go to pot again right away. We're hopeful that won't happen this time.
For your information, a violation has to be in view from the street in order for us to act on it. If a neighbor wants to invite us onto their own property to show us the violation we then can act on it.
Thank you and many sets of eyes are always better than one set, I appreciate residents who take pride in their property and will address those who do not by patrol and by residents contacting me and bringing it to my attention. Have a great day!
