Actually no I live about 4 miles away from skylark airport, I tagged the area where the planes are coming from. There really is no need for them to be flying in circles around my house and property, especially so low that I can see the people inside the plane.

You should have done your homework before you house. The airport was there before you signed the mortgage papers.

Tough situation here. The airport's been there for many many years and clearly offers very little activity these days. If anything, neighbors who have truly lived close by for a long time should be noting a significant decrease in aviation activity.

It occurred to me that I neglected to account for the possibility that a particular pilot may be at fault for circling a particular property too much, whether that might be out of malice or simply because the property provides a recognizable landmark on approach to Skylark.

If after reading the regulations anyone feels a general aviation pilot is violating any of the regulations, they should contact the Federal Aviation Administration's office in Windsor Locks at 860-654-1000 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Was the airport there before you moved in? If yes you have no complaint.

So Bob if the airport was there before I moved in then there's no problem with them flying over my property lower than aviation standards allow? I'm going to purchase a range finder and find out how low they are flying, I will be reporting plane numbers to the FAA. Thank you Doug you have been very informative.

Section 91.119 of the Federal Aviation Regulations indicate that minimum altitudes apply except when taking off or landing. If you are near the airport, then perhaps the planes are involved in one of the exceptions. The rules apply if the planes are not taking off or landing. If you purchased your house after the airport was built, you should have been aware of the operations. If you were there first, then perhaps the existence of the airport has been an annoyance. Either way, the regulations exist and the pilots have to abide by them. I would suggest you come to the airport and discuss your concerns with the pilots that primarily gather there in mornings on the weekends. Sometimes the flight paths can be changed slightly to allow for farms or sensitive areas. If not taking off or landing, 500' is the minimum altitude unless over congested areas when the altitude is 1000'.

I bought my house in Windsor Locks 25 years ago. The airport has been in WIndsor Locks since the 40's. I have no complaints the airport was here before me. I lived in Enfield before Windsor Locks at that house I got more noise from airplanes landing at Bradley than where I am now. Last year (+/-) while they repaved one of the runways the work sent a lot more planes over my house. No complaints the airport was here when I bought my house.

You whiners kill me. Your house is likely either in the traffic pattern to Skylark or in the takeoff or approach end of the runways; if you live on Wells Rd. that is likely the case. Skylark has been there for a long time. Kind of like the person who buys a house by the river then complains when his house gets flooded. Unbelievable.

All I ask is that the planes fly higher and lay off the engine braking. How would you like it If I sat in a bucket truck across from your house and watched you all the time while revving the engine. Just because you were there first doesn't make it right to bother me from above.

Junior, you make no sense. First of all, aircraft do not have "engine brakes." If you live 2 miles away from the airport, you are likely in the traffic pattern or approach to either of the runways. If this is true, minimum altitudes do not apply. Your comment that "buzzing would increase" shows how little you really know about pilots. No pilot would risk losing their pilot certification to get even with a whining ignoramus like you. I suppose you complain about jets flying over your house going into Bradley as well.

Something is very wrong with this complaint. First the person says he/she is at 24 Wells Road, then he/she says they are 4 miles from Slylark Airport. Which is it? There is no place on Wells Road that is 4 miles away from Skylark Airport.
Just about anyplace on Wells road is directly within the landing flight path for runway 28 at Skylark. Aircraft in this pattern wil be at 900' to 1000' above the ground in the downwind leg (heading East)of the pattern, lower on base (traveling North as far out as Broadbrook) and even lower on the final approach. Given that there is a pilot training center at Skylark, there is a fair amount of pattern activity, especially on weekends. There is also banner towing activities. Unless there is a traffic pattern conflict, aircraft will not be circling low in the traffic pattern.
Most aircraft engines will be throttled way back once they are opposite the point of runway touchdown, so, for the most part, engine noise shouldn't be an issue. If a pilot finds he/she is to low on any part of the landing approach, the engine rpm's migh incrrease a bit, but certainly not a lot.
Doug, as a pilot based at Skylark, I'll personaly take you for a flight in the area and demonstrate the landing procedures.

I believe the individual who brought up the issue picked the address simply by using the map, rather than as a way to identify his/her whereabouts. Based on some of the vitriol above it was probably a good idea not to provide an actual address, at least for the purpose of discussion.

However, I provided the contact info for the FAA. I don't know that anyone other than the FAA is really going to be effective mediating this issue. On one side, pilots and residents seem to want to suggest that because the airport may pre-date the person's arrival, they should have known better than to buy the property.

On the other hand, it's entirely possible that there's a particular pilot who is violating some FAA rules with respect to the flight pattern or altitude, etc.

And, it may be that the pilot knows the complainant. The FAA should probably sort this out.

This airport serves the community, if you have a complaint, you should go to the airport and talk to people directly. try to be polite. I'm sure if you are fair minded, some compromise can be worked out. If an aircraft is not in the landing pattern, than it has to maintain a certain hieght. Get the regristration number, and this will help you solve your complaint. -Jim
