TO Hill Resident - Unfortunately, they arent parked illegally, We dont have a walking beat in our part of the street and you would think we would given we r right behind Career High!! Lt. Hosey has been here to our home to discuss the brick that went through our front window by the maggot who lives upstairs!! So as far as neighborhood watch, the maggot threw the brick and the neighborhood watched!! So no we do not! Contacting the police in this area is an exercise in torture. The dispatch people dont seem to be very literate and then unless someone is bleeding profusely, one gets thrown to the back of the list. It is unfortunate. We won't stay here after our lease is up; there are 2 houses on the street who have the rest of the street terrified; the amount of actual garbage around this area is DISGUSTING!! One of the worst is Career High and that Eddie's corner store; Overgrown vacant lots that would make a lovely playground for the kids..there is NOTHING here for them! Car pulled up in front of my house and the occupants started counting crack bags while a little girl stood there and watched!!!! They were caught given the info I gave to the cops. We need a walking unit but ..when pigs fly!!!

I live on Elliot street I have been here approximately 4 years unfortunately due to health reasons I am not outside as much as I would like to be but I really enjoy where I live I have had a few incidents of stealing out of my hall and basement also the backyard but now that we are more secure it hasn't happened recently I hope that the people peddling these drugs move from here well really that they stop all together if we put our energy into our neighborhood and children the area would be ideal and comfortable

Dawn, could be. There are people who are used to being the influential movers and shakers, and the people that are used to being exploited and ignored. The latter tend to have less resources, and feel more helpless and hopeless about dealing with societal issues and they do settle for less, which is call survival, and they keep to their own family units. Maybe you can show them something concrete to rally around?

I am going to the Hill North Cmnty mtg tomorrow evening...There will be a few things we are going to "rally around"..I have had enough of treating these streets in THE HILL like the town dump!!!

Resolved via New Haven Police and drug raid on 80 Elliot St. for among other things, operating a drug factory!!!

Good work Hillfornow!!! It is a slow process, and sometimes it seems as if nothing is being done. But continue to be persistent and don't let anything go out of frustration. Your efforts are not futile. I personally know that it takes a while for NHPdcto build their case enough to get a raid ... and it starts with information that people like you (and me and the rest of us 'watchers' ) give them. They need locate a confidential informant or use an undercover officer that can get close to the dealer, not the boys on bikes. Then they have to record multiple 'buys' before they can even get a warrant on the individual at that location. Then they have to wait for a time when they KNOW this person is at that location with drugs! It's a long process but don't give up. It's working because of caring tenacious citizens like you!
