this intersection's crosswalks are gone, and it is a busy connection between the parks.

This is a 4 way stop (it didn't used to be some years ago), there shouldn't be a need for a marked crosswalk here anymore... if cars aren't stopping for a stop sign they definitely won't stop for a crosswalk.
