Went and flow tested the hydrant on Murray Hill Park and the one on Murray Hill Road and found them both to be dead. There are a few areas in the city that still need repairs to the hydrants and this is one of them. I will follow up with the Water Department and Engineering to find out a time frame. In the event of a fire in that area the Fire Department has been trained how to relay pump. The hydrants used would be from Hospital Road.

The hydrant is operational a hydraulic study on the transmittal Main line is the next analytical approach warrented the water crew is trying to gather the data needed to recommend a resolution

I trust the MALDEN Fire Department vs Water Department. Water Department needs to get on the same page as the Malden Fire Department.

So I am seeing conflicting comments from two city officials.

Because the two negate each other, the question of wether the hydrants work or not is not answered.

What has been done to remedy this concerning situation?

We are in year of 2015, not in 1900, we should not allow just one person to ruin our community, to destroy our quiet retreat and our beautiful park. We should spend the money to clean up the park and the pond. Plow a path around the pond during the winter time it will give us a chance to enjoy this winter wonderland .

Why does this issue go unanswered.

Should the residents of that area sue the city if there is a fire, with no water to put it out?

This issue is not going unanswered. The repairs of all the hydrants in the city is a project that has been ongoing for ten years. It is very time consuming and is very labor intensive. Most of the city hydrants have been fixed but unfortunately there are a few small areas that still need to be addressed and this is one of them. The city is fully aware and it will get addressed. There are two good hydrants on Hospital Road that can be used so to say there would be no water to put the fire out is inaccurate.

I was in contact with the Fire Department and they supplied some additional information which I thought could be helpful and additionally reassuring as well as of general interest.

Please let us know what the status is with the 2 fire hydrants. Our water has been shut off at least 5 times in the last 3 weeks in regards to city employees checking them out.

At this point, the issue is with the water department. They are the responsible department for all repairs. I will reach out to the water department head for an update.
