Description
91 south to 95 south should be expanded to a two lane merger from 91. They've formed a similar solution for traffic from frontage rd. south, having two lanes to the richard lee connector to the 91-95 junction. It might eliminate the endless jam at the bottom of 91, which is perpetually bad every single day.

The evidence strongly supports what the anonymous commenter just said. In every case I have ever seen or heard of, highway expansion has not reduced congestion over the lifespan of the infrastructure (~5 decades). The evidence is particularly strong when it comes to the effect of highway widening on greenhouse gas emissions. More highway capacity consistently translates into greater overall greenhouse gas emissions.

Pay special attention to the literature review in this paper. The link between level of congestion and expanded automobile use is well-established.

The entire interstate should be ripped out and replaced with a boulevard. The interstate currently wastes thousands of acres of land, which could be put to better use.
Look at the boulevards through Paris, which carry just as much traffic as I-91 but also allow for mixed-use tax-producing property, pedestrian and bus infrastructure.

saw the hillarious graffiti at the merge depicting the master plan for I-91. Would be great if someone had a photo to add to this now soon to be archived issue!

Not in this lifetime. The Boston / NYC artery is too powerful to be stopped. That's why we have Westport.
I must say this- I totally forecAsted the lane expansion. I think they started building the second lane 3 days later. Thanks, See click!
