Description

I can't tell you how many near accidents I have witnessed as people (often young children) attempt to cross the street going across State at Granger. Cars on State are not stopping. This is especially an issue when their is a field hockey match or any other U of M sport. There needs to be a traffic light or a stop sign or at least a sign that has drivers stopping for pedestrians and bicyclists. Steven M Stein MD 248-302-0649 drsteinmd@yahoo.com

The University is generating a major negative externality with that field hockey arena. They are also broadcasting loud and annoying sounds (including in the early morning hours) with beeping sounds that sound like an animated computer game. I think they are trying to draw people in who otherwise might not be interested. I don't think they have the slightest concern for safety or the neighborhood.

I'm also in favor of measures to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross State at Granger when UM athletic events are scheduled.

Ann Arbor has a high number of pedestrians getting hit by cars and this intersection is a prime location for an accident.

I agree, I stand near this corner on football Saturdays; traffic is heavy and pedestrians dash out into the street without even looking.
At other times, it is nearly impossible to make a left turn from Granger onto State. There are hardly ever breaks in the traffic.

City of Ann Arbor (Verified Official)

City staff are currently evaluating guidelines for marking and signing crosswalk locations. Once that process is complete, we will begin addressing design inconsistencies throughout Ann Arbor. Your concerns about this location have been noted, however we are unable to give a time frame for when this work will be completed.

I agree that this intersection needs to have better signage for the crosswalk. The steady stream of cars on State St. do not stop for pedestrians in the intersection. Furthermore, vehicles use Grainger as a through through-street/bypass of Stadium to get to State Street thus causing even more traffic in that intersection.
