I don't think that is a good solution for that intersection. A better solution would be to change the timing of the lights. Something does need to happen there since the lights don't have the same hold and go times.

Thank you for your comments. as part of the Reimagine W Howard Avenue project we will be installing a physical barrier to prevent cars from turning left from westbound W Howard Avenue onto the Adair leg of the Atlanta Avenue intersection.

The City will be installing protective barriers in the newly created hatched island to restrict left turns from W. Howard Avenue onto the Adair leg of the Atlanta Avenue intersection.

Additionally, the City is currently working with a design team on improvements to the intersection that will address traffic flow and the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists.

Please tell us that those hideous colored containers are not permanent. They look cheap and are not appealing whatsoever. Thanks for your time.

Thank you for your comments. The planters were chosen because they are colorful and self watering. The pavement striping and planters provide an effective, relatively low-cost approach to a significant community problem that was identified by residents and that was planned using a public civic engagement process. While the planters are not permanent in the way that more traditional streetscape and traffic calming improvements are, we do not plan to replace them in the near future. A more permanent and traditional approach would have cost significantly more and taken several years to complete.

While I understand your explanation, cheaper is not always better. I have out of town guests asking about these eyesores...they say it is not what one one expect from Decatur. I firmly believe these containers would not be tolerated along Clairemont or downtown or Ponce. Again thanks for your time. Is there someone our neighborhood can speak to directly about this issue?
