Description

I just got back to town after being away on business. Upon driving by our "BIG DIG" project I was happy to see that it is progressing; however I did want to ask WHY are we NOT installing a sub base of concrete and then a TOP layer of asphalt over this???? I would like to draw attention to the previous work completed beside 28th and 2nd Ave where concrete not so many years ago was installed and point out the deterioration happening there. Now I realize the type of concrete being used has to meet a criteria. What I'm getting at is WHY are the projects in our city being completed with concrete as opposed to the status quo being done in other cities??? After a relatively short time the concrete being installed on top will be in disrepair and the cost to remove it is going to be substantially more than using a asphalt planer!!! I'm wondering why no one else has questioned this to the engineers?? This is where our hard earned tax dollars are going folks ....to poorly engineered projects that we can patch up in only a short peiod of time so we can spend more money we don't have fixing things that should have been done corectly in the first place . It will be nice for awhile but I am aware their are BETTER alternatives! I thought our tax payers would like some insight into this. Who approved this AWESOME design??? Another project with good intentions that will end up costing twice as much in the end not long down the road. Drive around Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton, and Calgary and tell me if you see things there designed this way?? I could be off base here however look at the previous work completed in the same fashion and tell me what you see?
