Does anyone from the City of West Haven read these? Nothing has been done. How can they allow someone to have trash bags piled outside a house for 4+ months?

Another trash pickup ame and went, and there is still a pile of bags in front of 22 Prospect Av.

There are several houses with trash piled out front for weeks (or maybe months), tall grass and weeds (how many ticks just found a new home), and houses that look like a strong wind will knock them down because nothing is taken care of...

One of the houses was finally demolished- what an improvement!

And it looks like the owners of 35 Prospect are fixing it up- I see them bringing in all sorts of boards, 2x4s, tools, etc. and there is a dumpster in the driveway, although there is no permit in the window.

Meanwhile the house on the top of the hill looks like its about to fall down and does have a building permit, but doesn't appear that they are doing anything to fix things up!

Is this issue resolved?

The trash at 22 Prospect was FINALLY picked up, but the houses are still a mess... and now other houses have trash piled up... it is just a filthy nasty neighborhood! There used to be city trash cans at both ends of the street (by the park and by the beach) but they are gone, so now people just leave trash everywhere... and the houses still look like they are going to fall down... and 35 Prospect STILL doesn't have a permit for the work they are doing...

I would recommend separating out issues since there seem to be a large cluster of unrelated issues in this thread. Complain succinctly so that problems can be tracked.

35 Prospect Ave is being used for storage. Guy comes by every now and again in a minivan and puts stuff in and takes stuff out. No one has lived there for many years.

41 Prospect was foreclosed on and was just up for (unsuccessful?) auction.

135 Prospect is occupied and has been under construction for some time. Lumping it in with other problem homes in the neighborhood is probably not fair.

FYI, Trash that was in front of 22 some months ago was mostly construction debris in black bags (drywall, etc) which is why the town (correctly) did not pick it up.

Some of the street has finally taken steps to look better (two houses were demolished, other have had major work) but the trash collectors have left TVs, computers, and a sink for over a month. Really gives an atmosphere of trailer trash to the neighborhood....

But, the kicker is the house at the top of the hill is worse every week. If the homeowners leave the door open, you can see inside is just as bad. It is terrifying to think that children live in a house this disgusting- there are pathways to walk between boxes and piles of junk, everything looks as if it could crumble any second. The homeowners obviously have money, since they own two Volvos, a new truck, and a fancy camper, but apparently just have weird priorities and like to live like disgusting slobs. I tripped over weeds on the sidewalk when I tried to take photos of the peeling paint and crumbling exterior and piles of trash on the front porch. I give up. Hope the DCYS (or whatever the agency is in CT that helps children) will at least get the kids out of that pit before they get sick from the filth.

The show: Hoarding, buried alive comes to mind. Its a shame I grew up in this neighborhood and a couple of those houses that are mentioned on the top of prospect have always looked like they needed to be demolished or some really good TLC, seems like the city should do something about it, but probablly won't, I loved this neighborhood growing up but it seems like this area of town wants to be like the rest of west haven, waste.

I agree. I actually live in one of these disgusting houses. I moved in because I thought it was cute and charming but very soon I realized I moved into a shack. It's falling apart. We have an ant and rodent problem, roof leaks, insulation sucks!!! Bet $10 I could get a building inspector to come in and condemn the entire property!! Not even kidding.

Rob Whelan - GOP 8th District Council candidate. Seeing photos and neighborhood blight like this makes me sick, especially since so much of us put time and effort into keeping our properties looking good. I'm not going to point fingers at the mayor. But this clearly is a sign of the massive "absentee landlord" problem we have in this city. One thing I would propose is we hit property owners like this with massive fess for allowing blight like this, and also tax them not with a residential tax but a much higher business tax if they do not reside in the property. I will be walking the neighborhood next week.

Eleanore Turkington requests names and gripes of complainants. Isn't it enough that these issues are here on this site? Couldn't she direct the Mayor or Dept. of Pubic Works to these complaints? Why is it necessary to repeat ourselves when it's all right here?

House on top Right corner of Prospect has had SCAFFOLDING up 2 stories high for over 3 years. 117 Prospect has a flapping tarp on the roof for 2 years. Meanwhile new neighbors are fined for grass being cut 2 days late.

Richmond Avenue - red home which faces sideways has yard full of card parts, etc. and looks like a junkyard. Has for a long time; nothing has been done.
