Description
VERY SICK AGRESSIVE RACOON was spotted on Truman Street at 8:00am today (9/22/15). It wa staggering as if 'drunk' and did not run when approached - it reacted aggressively!!! A message was left with Animal Control as their phones aren't answered until 9:00am. NHPD arrived and visually tracked it until it went up a tree and then into a rear yard where they lost sight. This animal was in an area where there are a lot of children waiting for school buses and walking to the neighborhood school. Animal Control needs more staff to be able to respond to URGENT calls like these!!! This animal exhibited all the symptoms of having rabies ... appeared disoriented, staggering unsteady walk, circling!!!! I called Animal Control but there was no response. What else should we do? What else can be done? This cannot be ignored in such a densely populated neighborhood with many children!!!

You did right to call the police. I think the police have a special number to get someone who is 'on call' for emergencies, and the police should have gotten an animal control person there immediately. ahh but, our pitiful police department dropped the ball.
there are other diseases besides rabies, like distemper or other thing.. but definitely something wrong there.
I don't know why I just got this tonight.
